I have some unexpected spare time next week.

I am down south and not far from Portsmouth. I have had a quick look and can get an overnight ferry to Caen cheap, this will give me enough time to sort some things out and have a sleep on the boat and arrive early morning for a days riding.

My issues, I don't know where to go!

I was thinking getting a 1 way ferry, ride some decent roads, stay a few nights and come back via the tunnel or ferry depending on where I end up and what is available at the time.

Has anyone got any recommendations on where to go, biker friendly places to stay or done before? My preparation so far is sticking some chain lube on my bike and asking my mate to borrow his dry bag.

Or just work your way up the coast back to Calais, loads of places to see, problem is it's half term so last minute accommodation might be tricky.

Thanks for that route. I have modified it slightly to see some places I wanted to go and add in some roads others say are worth the ride

I was going to go last night but the weather looked crap so going to jump on the night ferry tonight

Should be great fun. I went on an impromptu France/Spain tour a few weeks ago, had to get to Madrid for a work meeting, three days down there, four days back. I chose a B&B or hotel that was about 350/400 miles away each morning, usually Booking.com, £60-£90 range, made sure they had secure parking, then spent all day on the bike, mix of motorways and back roads, seeing the sights. Perfect.
