Why is carandclassic.co.uk still so awful?
Discussion
Many sellers also use other outlets, for example www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk
but I agree, clunkiness and classics seem to go hand in hand on some sites.

It's just the whole layout, presentation and user-friendliness is so crude and clunky as if it's still stuck in the 1990s. In fact it seems older than some of the cars on there.
They are either screaming idiots or they know exactly who their core audience is and is catering perfectly for them. No point in building an all singing and dancing modern site for young people to use as young people have no spare money in contrast to the legion of easily angered geriatrics.

That site is no better. I use carandclassic a lot, and I never use classiccarsforsale because the search is so bad, amd the content is so poor.I always assumed carandclassic is crap because it's free, and doesn't get a lot of ad revenue from third parties either.

I'm not sure how they're funded. When I bought my XK150 back in 2005 I found the dealer on classiccarsforsale but the dealer said he wasn't sure how the cars ended up on there and that the listing was way out of date, so I'm not sure how they got paid.I always assumed carandclassic is crap because it's free, and doesn't get a lot of ad revenue from third parties either.
Can't say I've ever had a problem with the design of either website, classiccarsforsale works quite happily without having to allow all sorts of nasty javascript and tracking rubbish.

I like its horses for courses I guess.
I don't find it slow. Its actually far easier to find what you want on there than it is on here.
When something is that good. Perhaps it doesn't need refining.
I would agree, it isn't surprising that people who design new websites are drawn to and want to show off their new ways of doing things. Usability is often less of a priority than looks and too much faith is put in high speed data claims. I don't find it slow. Its actually far easier to find what you want on there than it is on here.

It doesn't seem to have changed one bit since it started out all those years ago and yet still claims to be Europe's No. 1 website for classic car and bike sales.
That report is from March 2013, things have changed since then...Would have thought that income is from display advertising and referral fees, (to all the ebay links etc.)

Surely they need to update it sooner, rather than later? It's just so crappy.
What are you suggesting is wrong with it? Surely they need to update it sooner, rather than later? It's just so crappy.
It shows cars for sale, pictures, some text from the seller, and location. It's free, as far as I understand. I suppose it would help if you could click an icon and the car magically materialise on your drive for a quick inspection but, seriously, what do you need?
Carandclassic.
Advertises cars that are easy to find, by make, model, location, price etc.
Pistonheads is a nightmare in comparison, it expects everyone to have a 40" computer monitor so you can hardly scroll through the options, it has pop up ads that are too easy to accidently click on, is difficult to narrow your search down, has loads of dealers advertising in the wrong section and loads of POA cars blocking everything.
It does look stylish though.....

I have bought three times, and sold twice on carandclassic.
I've tried to search on classiccarsforsale, but it's so poor, I've never found anything useful. Classic Cars magazine seems to use them for their classifieds, but those are very sparse these days.
I can't remember the last time I even tried to use PH classifieds because it's so utterly crap that it's essentially not fit for purpose.

Could this comment not apply to Pistonheads too?!Surely they need to update it sooner, rather than later? It's just so crappy.
