On another PH thread "Pre-sliced bread".

I can only assume that pre-sliced bread is indeed the best thing since sliced bread.
It could be argued that pre-sliced bread is, in fact, unsliced.
Or indeed dough

"Just a quick question..."

As opposed to a slow one?

It's as if the questioner is apologising for putting someone in a situation where they feel obliged to answer said question. It's also ironic if the question is unnecessarily wordy hehe

Almost literally yes.

“Is you last name spelled Mc or Mac?”

Vs

“What do you think of the notion that there is an abstract morality that is separate and distinct from law/society that we should adhere to?”

It's still unnecessary to refer to a question as a quick one. Really, why bother? That and a short and concise question can require a lengthy answer and a vice versa.

Is it the question that's quick (as that's what is actually being said) or is it the answer that's short?

Gets my goat even if others can see the logic in it, anyway shoot

Most of the time, both.

"Audi E Tron sponsors Sky Documentaries'.

(1) It's a car, not a person, it obviously cannot sponsor anything. If Audi the corporate entity is a sponsor, say so, but even then:
(2) It's a lie, the documentary was made years ago and was not enabled by Audi in any way. The phrase 'Sponsored by' is being used as a form of advertisement with no actual meaning.

Nothing against Audi in particular, others are guilty of the same nonsense, but I just saw this one a few minutes ago!

All of the things like "wailing" "gnashing of teeth" "screaming" "screeching" and especially "spittle flecked" whatever it is that some people use to hype up those giving views they don't agree with.

So you wouldn't have liked Harvey Smith riding "Sony Trinitron VCR/VHS Multiplay 2000 'Trigger' " then? hehe

"Username checks out then" bores.

Accompanied by a laughter emoji as an extra indication to all other forum users of their cleverness, and how pleased they are with themselves.

Another Americanism.

"I'll see if can't find that for you".

Why don't you see if you can find it, as that would give me the impression that you were trying to succeed in helping in me, rather than setting out to prove that you'll fail.

No I wouldn't, because it is a ridiculous name for a horse. But it is not pretending that the VCR itself is the sponsor!

We've had this one before. It's an abbreviated form of:

I could care less, but I don't.

Really? I've never heard any Americans say the second part of that line.

Still means the same thing though surely. Which is the opposite of the way it's used.

On slightly similar lines, I listen to Matt Farrah's Smoking Tyre (tire?) podcast and he uses the term 'fk all' completely back to front as well. He'll say something along the lines of 'this car is fk all fast' by which he means it's very fast but 'fk all' has always meant 'nothing' in my own experience.

And everyone else's experience. Farrah gets away with it because he thinks he's right, and no one has told him forcibly enough what a tool he's being.

Anecdote time (sorry): Decades ago when I were a lad and was hell bent on irritating my mother to death I finally broke her calm demeanour and she snapped at me "Ooh I could screw you". "You don't mean that Mother" was my reply, which annoyed her even more until I explained what she'd said.

My point is Farrah doesn't think he talking gibberish, someone needs to tell him.
