Our four year old said really loudly as we walked alongside the person:

"Daddy why is that person so fat? Look he's wobbly!"

So you never know.

Ha ha.

Similar experience at a house warming party I recently attended with daytime attendees mostly parents + kids.

Mum: do you know who own this jacket (picked up on the floor)?
Her daughter (guess 4/5 years old): It belongs to the fat boy.

Even more embarrassing for the Mum as the mother of the fat boy was in the kitchen at the same time.

They have no filter.

I've also no reason to make it up; this is a lovely thread and I have no mission to derail or provide "fake news" smile

Were not quite at potty training with our 2 year old, she had a phase of being great and then stopped dead - so were waiting on her to feel more like it.

Anyway, has anyone had an issue with nappies leaking overnight? Or does my daughter just wee a lot in her sleep..? Its not that they dont fit, shes in 4+ nappies (cant go any bigger as shes too small for them) and shes filling them up in the night to the point they sometimes leak.

1 or 2 nights a week, so its not constant but enough for her to wake up because shes wet and the sheets are etc.

Anyone else had their child & given up the booze? I had our work Christmas party last night, got home at 10:30 but up at 5:30 and i'm just done now I think. I've never been a mega drinker or a big clubber but now it feels even more of a chore to drink with a baby at home.

Have you tried changing the brand of nappies? Some are definitely more absorbent than others. We use Aldi nappies during the day, but Pampers at night because they seem to cause fewer instances of leaking. Came about this by chance as a friends baby had outgrown the size so they gave us their now spare pack of Pampers to use up.

Yep - like you I was never a big drinker (a heavy night was 5 or 6 pints). But now even just one is enough for me to wonder why I'm bothering; end up driving most places now.

We do exactly the same, Aldi during the day, and pampers at night, due to the pampers being better at water retention/absorption overnight.

Yes, combination of not being able to handle a 3 month old with a hangover and also the fact that I've never been able to handle my drink and used to get a bit silly. Came home after one Christmas do with the wrong jacket and a stranger's wallet (which I subsequently returned). Come January 1st I'll have not had a drop in 3 years, which considering our second is due around that time is not likely to change anytime soon.

I think my drinking has gone up! I much prefer 'casual' drinking though and not 'getting stfaced' drinking - so thankfully hangovers are fairly rare... and since our going to bed routine is now a 90 minute affair, I usually sober up nicely before laying down which is the key to hangover avoidance! It also helps that our village pub is very intimate, they always reserve us a quiet corner with a couple of chesterfield chairs so the missus can feed in peace and we can still get our social fix in.

Had a nasty couple of nights, missus has caught some kind of bug so she's been out of it - she still wants to breast feed though so I feel awful having to go and wake her up every few hours to get that done. I'm doing everything else whilst working (from home), and also slowly feeling myself come down with something.

Last night it seems our baby got a bit bunged up, she was asleep trying to breath through her nose - found she couldn't then instead of defaulting to her mouth she'd just lay there without breathing - kicking and groaning until she finally tried the mouth option, and then fell back asleep. A bit amusing in hindsight but there were some terrible noises coming from her last night!

Absolutely knackered now, 3 hours till pub opens. boxedin

Try Pampers Baby Dry pants. Also a routine of potty before bed can help, even if they are not asking to go.

Giver her less to drink later in the day.

also recommend the Asda pull up pants, we bought some as they were cheap and the quality was excellent, no issues containing whatever a near-2 year old could put in them!

When our eldest was about 2.5, we were walking through a local park. It's a popular spot for wedding photos as there's a hotel that hosts a lot of weddings nearby. A newly-wed couple were there and the bride was of substantial construction. Our lad spots here and says "look, a lady!... a BIG one..."

More recently in the supermarket, "daddy, why is that man so fat?"

And a couple of weeks ago in the cafe in John Lewis - "that lady is really old"

When my eldest (6) was about 2 we would walk around the supermarket. One thing she loved to do was walk down the pet food aisle and make the noise of the animal on the tin/packet. Woof, mioaw, cheep, etc.

We came to the end of the aisle and there was a lady pushing a trolley. She was about the width of the trolley, hunched over and wearing, IIRC a long brown coat. My little one runs up and goes "MOOOOOOOOO".

As I say, zero filters. Thankfully they grow out of it and then start asking questions like, "when are you going to die daddy?"

Just typing this as I need to try and get my head round it, and writing it down should help and this thread seems appropriate. So feel free to glaze over it.

My daughter was born yesterday lunchtime, OH had a traumatic labour and they ended up getting the forceps out. OH blood pressure kept dropping yesterday so she was out of it and didn’t get to spend any time with new born. Then about 6pm the (amazingly excellent) midwives noticed babies breathing was a bit off, and she was whisked off to Neo Natal and spent the night in intensive care where I went between there and OH on labour ward. We initially came in on Tuesday when OH called me at work to say she didn’t feel well, and there was a small bleed. So I’ve been awake since 5am Tuesday and trying to keep it together for the both of them.
Baby is now doing a lot better and is out of intensive care on a high dependency unit, I took the OH down to see her for the first time properly and let her have all the hugs and contact she needed.
I’ve got no idea when to go home and how long for, I’m just in survival mode looking after the two of them.

Other than that, I’m fine ha.

Congrats.

1) They are all in the right place. smile
2) Get some sleep, otherwise you will be even less use to them, you will need your energy when they come home.

Yeah our eldest has started asking about that a lot over the past year or so. His best pal's grandad passed away just over a year ago which seemed to prompt it. He asked me the other night, "Are you older than mummy?" - No, I'm a year younger than her - "does that mean she'll die before you?".

He's five and a half, while we're on the subject I'm open to suggestions as to how to talk to him about this, other than simple reassurance.

Just back from our 20 week scan, it looks like we're having a little girl (although she kept her legs closed so not 100%).

She didn't have any abnormalities identified during the scan, but some checks on the blood vessels identified that these were smaller than normal which increases chances of complications and a small birth weight. So a little concerning, but as a result they're keeping a closer eye on Mum and baby with scans at 28,32 and 36 weeks. I better get used to driving the JR in Oxford
