Any of your children doing world book day today? A very cute assortment of kids on the drop off. Ours went as Al Mcnasty (crocodile) and Princes Pearl.

My two nephews are, 5 and 8, but our little one isn't in nursery or anything today so she'll have to wait her turn.

For the ones with expectant girlfriends/wives - when have they decided to finish up work for maternity leave?

due in May and, as mentioned above, she is a nurse so she is chalked down for the remaining time to 50% as its standing up work. in reality i would say end of april.

My partner is planning to finish work 1 week before due date.. She is currently 29 weeks, i feel it is dragging a bit now.. I keep forgetting about what is going to happen and then suddenly i get anxious about all the things that could go wrong or the changes coming.

it differs again on personal preference. Mrs 2CV said that there was little point finishing really early as it felt like wasted time as you are so huge you can't do anything and the nursery, necessary purchases are all done so it's really tedious. I am sure some women feel they would prefer to chill out, but best to ask them afterwards whether they would do the same again. Maybe the type of job they do is a big factor.

We tried to leave it for as late as possible.

Jr 1 - Left work about a month before arrival, wife ended up sitting around feeling uncomfortable and not able to do much. This then meant that she was going back to work at 11.5 months etc. At this age they are really changing fast here, and an extra 2 weeks would have really helped in the reducing the daytime feeds and getting more "solids" in.

Jr 2 - Left work at 4.30pm, labour started at 11pm. (And Jr arrived 5pm the next day) He will be a full year old before we hand him over to the childminder.

As above, rastapasta, your wife is a bonafide angel!

Our son's (7) school have changed it to they wear their PJ's in and bring a book instead which is great as we don't have to by outfits every year!

wife was due 8th of january, so just finished up at christmas (20th ish) when her work closed the office and didn’t go back.

as mentioned, all depends on the job/ role. mrs malks would’ve worked prob to 1/2wks before had xmas not been in the way. she would’ve been bored out her mind sat at home just waiting on the baby to arrive. but by that point she was very tired and a usual day at work (desk job) still really took it out of her

My wife finished 2 weeks before her due date. But she had Noah via a planned C-section a week after finishing (39 weeks cooked).

Edited to say - She's HR staff so sat round talking and drinking tea all day with little work being done so not particularly strenuous so "worked" as long as she could.

My nursery had a lot of cute toddlers and babies in a myriad of outfits. Its good when people put in a bit of effort. Mine went as a tiger (who came to tea).

For any of you with heavily pregnant wives, are you still happy to travel abroad 3 weeks before due date? Wondering if its silly with risk of quarantine whilst there and potentially missing birth, or worse bringing something back.

Everyone has their own limits but we wouldn’t risk it under normal circumstances never mind when everyone is going mental over the new virus.

We flew when she was 34 weeks, and could only do so with a doctors note, not that the airline checked. It was only a weekend in Hamburg for a wedding so not too far and not for long.

We actually took a hospital bag on the off chance. I thought it was overkill, but then a few months later one of our friends had her baby at 34 weeks. So it can and does happen.

I wouldn't entertain going anywhere too far after 30 weeks now. I wouldn't even be thinking about it at 37 weeks, even if you are allowed and there wasn't a virus thing going about. But as has already been mentioned I don't think the airline will let you.

It's a bit challenging anyway in late 3rd trimester as mum is normally knackered from lack of sleep and carrying a wriggling small person around...
