Just finished cooking a BBQ at the weekend and was sitting down with a beer and the baby on my lap...

Oh no, I find side-on changing much easier to deal with, as I can have the business end with my dominant hand, and there's no risk of being showered or sprayed with that supersonic stream of piss that happens maybe once a month but on a totally random basis. Am glad that in this case I have a girl, as my mate with a little boy has of course had a face full from his lad's little willy flailing around uncontrollably.
I have not found this to be an issue yet as it generally ends up all over him at the moment - still doesn't learn though wink I suspect the force behind the stream increases as they get bigger which is when it could get more interesting.

We're almost at 36 weeks now, getting (even more) excited/nervous. Little one is moving around like mad, definitely ready to come out soon.
Haven't attended any classes or anything yet so no support network as of yet, midwife is fantastic though.

would suggest you might have left it a bit late for classes!

Getting on for 7 weeks old today. An absolute little delight in every way.... however, he can be the biggest pain in the butt you can imagine when he wants to.

Exclusively breastfed now (earlier I said that was the intention) which means he’s very very attached to Mum in all respects - if she leaves the room for more than a minute he gets very aggy.

I must admit, during the conception and pregnancy journey I never thought it would be as intense as it is. We have virtually no support network, but I guess in some ways it means you have to work out what to do yourselves, and quickly, so it’s quite fulfilling when you get it right.

Really stuck with nappies at the moment thought though, wees escape the slightly too big number 3s and poos fill up the 2s and leak out!

HKP - try different brands of nappies.

What do you use currently?

We found that what worked perfectly for one baby doesn’t with another dependent on the baby’s build.

Ours was chunky with big legs and found that Aldi nappies worked really well and that we wouldn’t have any leaks.

But friend with babies that had slim legs they sometimes leaked.
They seemed to prefer the pampers.

I recently took part in a trial for Lidl testing their new nappies and I was really impressed.
For the month we used them we had no leakages at all.

Unfortunately I don’t live anywhere near a Lidl so don’t buy them myself, but very confident in recommending them to others based on the test.

ETA - the nappies we had issues with regular leakages was Naty (the eco ones) and Tesco own brand and Ocado own brand.

Now if we ever have any leakage, it’s either due to nappy change being overdue, or major explosion caused from teething. (You can always tell a teething poo as they smell like puke)

We were on Pampers 3 after Tesco 1 and 2 (special offer at Tesco, albeit still more than own brand). Have moved today to Aldi size 3 which seem thicker making clothes harder to fit. They seem to be holding up so far. Are Lidl and Aldi the same?

My son was born 5 1/2 months ago.

I was keen to contribute to this group but sadly the birth of our Son Harry didn’t quite go to plan.

I won’t go into detail but both Harry and Mum had a bit of a torrid time resulting in a emergency caesarean, blood transfusion(s), failed epidural, both crashing and a very poorly Mummy afterwards. All followed by a legal complaints hearing and numerous meetings that has only just finished (not raised by us but an independent governing body).

However, I’m so happy to say that both are absolutely fine and Harry is doing everything he is supposed to be and more.

This was him today.

What a darling! Glad you’ve all recovered well. Mrs HKP’s birth wasn’t fun and 2 months on she is still suffering daily with the consequences of it. We discovered the clause in her private health care that said it doesn’t cover anything related to pregnancy or childbirth either. Fantastic!

Most don’t, sadly.

you'd have thought that even though having kids is entirely optional and not an illness, that even so any illnesses arising from doing so should still be covered. Seems unfair.

He looks like a happy chappy.

Sounds like your missus went through pretty much the same time as mine did with our little-un (the first few hours after the caesarean it was touch and go if she was going to pull through). Except the legal side of it, we had non of that.

He is an absolute star. So happy and rarely cry’s and sleeps wonderfully.

Yes, it was hardly a fun experience and to say that I felt helpless is an understatement - but it’s not about me.

The legal / hearing / investigation thing only came about when we asked for a better understanding of how things went the way that they did. Mrs Joe5y was blaming herself etc and I like to have all facts. We were spoken to by the Director of Midwifery and it became apparent that the notes she had were factually incorrect and from what we told her the investigation began.

After months and finally the last hearing the main thing we (Mrs Joe5y) gained was to help her mentally. If nothing else, she stopped blaming herself and is now back to being my wife.

5 and a bit months in and he was 'upgraded' to the cot in his own room last night as he now likes to roll on to his front to sleep but cant easily do that in the moses basket. Slept through the night as well which was a bonus.

He has also learned to crawl backwards as we discovered when he reversed under one of the pillows this morning. Excuse the decor, it was on my list of things to do but then he arrived...

Great news and congratulations to the new dads of the thread!

My daughter Emily is 6 months old today, its getting better every day, except for the fact she won't sleep in the heat after about 2.30am and my poor wife is up most of the night feeding her! We've tried various combinations of clothing/blankets etc but nothing really takes away from the fact the room gets up to about 26c overnight even with the fan blowing away.

Still, we too have just transitioned into her being in her own cot, which she's more comfortable in now. Soon we'll be putting her into her own room as well before the attachment gets too much!

We had one of those freestanding aircon units that we used when ours were very young. Blast it for an hour before bed time and get the temp right down, then turn it off as they are quite noisy and the noise comes through on the baby monitor.

Now they are a bit older we don't bother, but when they were under 12 months it made us feel better about the heat at least.

Had our 2nd scan recently - everything looking fine and found out we’re having a boy. I was secretly hoping for a girl but I’m just thrilled that he appears healthy and also my wife is having a trouble-free pregnancy.

He’s due the end of October so we’re starting to do the various jobs around the house and buying bits and pieces for when he arrives.

My wife isn’t from the UK and her Mum is coming over to stay with us for the first few months so my wife will have plenty of support when I return to work after paternity leave.

Is it normal to feel calm at this stage? I’m really excited but don’t feel nervous or anxious, although suspect that may change nearer the time!

Our boy will be 38 weeks baked tomorrow, so really could be arriving any time in the next month. People keep asking if I'm nervous etc, I'm not really. I'm calm but excited. I think I have to be as otherwise Mum would be a right mess, I'm a steady hand at the moment.
I can't wait to meet him ??

yea i don't see why you shouldn't feel calm! It's the best way to approach the whole endeavour really.
