apparently them facing you in the pram is best for language development (if you speak to them of course) and facing forwards is better for them getting an appreciation of the environment around them... we tend to mix it up!

We haven’t shown him it can go forward because once he knows it can do that he will never want to face backwards.
It’s just us wanting a quiet life for a bit smile. We talk to him all the time anyway, pram or not.
We will turn it around sooner or later.

Well we are just into the third trimester now, and it looks like this is going to be the first time my wallet is taking a hit.....

Looking at Buggies / Car seat / Travel systems....whatever you want to call them, seems an absolute minefield!

We've almost settled on a Recaro (naturally for PH wink) http://www.pramworld.co.uk/recaro-citylife-travel-...

But why do I need a Buggy, car seat AND a carry cot? Can't we just leave the baby in the car seat for carrying from place to place then just chuck it in the car? I don't see the point in the carry cot unless I'm missing something, the buggy folds to flat so the baby can sleep flat if needs be?

Do I have to spend this much? Anyone any other current recommendations?

PS the search function is useless (or I am) I'm sure this has been covered, but maybe someone just got a bang up to date deal.
We purchased the recaro City life on its own for £325 and getting on well with it - found it to be good value for money and managed to get a brand new bassinet from eBay for £40 which is usually £130

We also got the recaro zero elite 1 car seat ...

https://www.naturalbabyshower.co.uk/collections/re...

We got the adapter so the the infant carrier can be put on the push chair but to be honest the adapter was a waste of time as only used the infant carrier once as the baby was much more comfortable in the bassinet.

The pushchair is decent and is very simple to use and much cheaper than the bugaboo etc..

The car seat is also very good and has great functionality - the only negative is that the baby sits a little more upright than getting sepearte infant carrier from the likes of maxi-cost etc ..

When the baby falls asleep his head drops a lot rather than laying back...

Well my son Arthur arrived earlier today. 7 pounds. It wasn't a great birth, went on for hours, the missus basically had no pain relief at all due to the quacks not being available to give her the epidural, and the gas and air making her sick, and in the end he had to be sucked out.

However, a great day. Especially after 2 previous miscarriages. Quite mind bending in many ways, life.

Quite

Visitors are welcome if:

  • They do the washing up
  • Bring cake or nice biscuits
  • Make tea/coffee for everyone
  • Offer to take the small one for a push for an hour

Congratulations.

Currently looking at car seats for the next stage for my little one. Apparently Recaro are stopping making baby seats frown

The last 11 months have completely flown by, all I can say is make the most out of them when they are that small. Time absolutely flies by.

3 weeks away eek

Sports car is going, and family wagon arriving.

Builders still finishing our bathrooms and patio, house looks like a disaster zone.

Totally unprepared - but hospital bag packed. Have read some books, booked a doula as quite frankly we wanted someone at the birth who does this all the time.

Lady F now big and uncomfortable - working from home this summer has been tough on her!

God help us. Excited but really, really nervous. Lady F the other day - "what the hell have we done???" smile

Took 8 attempts to get the Epidural in to my wife.. Stabbed in the spine several times with a needle, whilst in labour and curled up like a cat. Not good.

That's the way of it, it's one of the few things in life that you can't ease yourself into. It goes from nothing to everything in 24 hours.

Mine are 9 and 6 years old and I still sometimes feel like a newbie.

Good luck with it all..

Congratulations PP!

39 weeks tomorrow here! I am on tenter hooks, as it could be tonight, could be 3 or 4 weeks time... Poor lass has totally had enough now though and just wants it over with. Everything is "ready" as much as it can be but we are both just wanting to meet him and get started, sooner the better.

The amount of family hovering about in the sidelines wanting to be 'first to know' is getting on my tits already though. We have decided we are not telling anyone anything until he's born, and even considering now telling anyone until we are home!

3 weeks for us too.

Feel exactly the same.

One moment I'm completely calm about the whole thing, the next I'm almost messing my briefs.

When ours were born the parents and siblings got a call the next morning. Everyone else got an email with a photo until we all got back home.

I'm not looking forward to this aspect either, it's nice that people are excited but a pain in the arse at the same time. Good luck to you both in the next few days/weeks.

Big congrats to PP! Hope everything is going well.

And thank you to everyone for the buggy / carrying advice, I'm sifting through it all at the moment. Very helpful cheers.

Thanks all. I have to say that in terms of the actual delivery, the staff were good. Better than good infact. They were business like and that's what you want - no fking about. The doctor who performed the ventouse delivery (I think that's how it is spelt) looked about 15 but again, she knew exactly what she was doing.

It was all utterly mind bending I have to say.

And if anyone wants an epidural make the decision sooner rather than later. Do not procrastinate. The doctor was with another poor bugger who was having major problems, so not the fault of the staff I guess as they only have so many resources.

Good luck all. The day itself is ever so slightly awful but at the same time, quite beautiful as well- if that makes sense.

Ps take rings off and leave them at home. Thanks to my wife, I now have limited mobility in one hand.

God knows some of the midwives are lovely, and God knows you won't shock a midwife, but this is hardly the time, dude.

The little prince is 11 weeks this Friday. Talk about a rollercoaster ride.

It’s when they do the little things that make you think it’s all worth while, like smile, or giggle the first time. he sh@t everywhere this morning, ruined a nappy, a vest, a sleeping bag and our bed and managed to get it all up his back to his neck. However, for the first time he just soothed himself to sleep. That’s never happened. Starting to see the light.

We had our second on 15th July, they gave my other half diamorphine for pain relief.
