I proposed last month, I had a few ideas.

One idea was to do it at the "Step into the void" on Aiguille du midi in chamonix last March but the ring hadn't been made by that point.

I turned 30 last month and because I'm an inquisitive so and so I'd found out that a surprise party was being held for me under the guise of us attending someone elses engagement party.

I took the ring just in case (kept it safe) and half way through the night got up to do a thank you speach which quickly switched into me asking her to marry me.

Only her parents and my dad knew I was going to propose but no one knew when so it was a complete surprise turned back on them!

Because everyone was filming and taking photos I have it from all angles smile

I sort of broke my own rule though, I always promised myself that I wouldn't propose on another significant event, my actual birthday wasn't until the day after so it was fine :P

I'd recommend your "mate" either do it as a complete surprise or go all out with a romantic gesture, really build it up so that she/he may be expecting it but they're completely overwhelmed by everything you've done.

Lifes to short to worry about cliches etc when it comes to the person you want to marry, make it a moment you'll never forget.

First one, private firework display with Will you marry me? Written in fire.

Second one, nervously pushed her in a bush.

Currently on honeymoon.

Happy Belated Birthday.

I turn 30 next Friday and am going to Spain on Tuesday to celebrate for a week. The ring has been made and her old man is smuggling it out there at the weekend.

I'm just struggling for ideas.

I mean my mate is.

Quiet little romantic courtyard we found whilst attending a conference in Barcelona.

After she said yes there was applause from the residents hanging out their windows.

The following weekend we went down to the Jewellery qtr in Brum to pick out a ring.

Outside Tiffany's on 5th Avenue in New York. Mrs Puggit's favourite film is Breakfast at Tiffany's.

We then went in to buy the ring...

We'd been up the Empire State Building earlier in the day, and I'm sure she expected the question then wink

Happy birthday too!

Personally I enjoy the surprise angle but that's because everyone in my family loves a surprise hehe

If you're going to do a speech or a few sentences, make sure you practice in the mirror.

It might feel strange but if you nail it then that's something that sticks in her and other peoples minds, in the weeks after our proposal I had a lot of compliments about how well I presented myself etc

Where possible, keep the ring with you, you may not think of an idea but end up in a situation that's perfect and you can just do it (that's where the speech practice comes in handy wink )

Booked a suite overlooking the harbour at the Ritz Carlton Hong Kong. Got picked up in their Phantom, dinner at Tin Lung Heen and then up to Ozone bar where we had a velvet roped area blocked off for us with the harbour view. Had the concierge go and grab the ring from in my bag while we went for a swim during the day and the patisserie make a cake with will you marry me on. They brought it over at midnight. I made my designed my own ring and hand made the box too. It's the most effort I've ever put into anything.

I proposed on our 4 year anniversary of getting together. I was banned from doing it on a day such as Christmas or her birthday.

I was fortunate in that our date that day was a walk around some local woods, so I decided to take her back - just for a walk. She did eventually remember where we were and liked that I'd taken her back. Part way around was when I asked, she'd turned around to take a picture and I was on one knee when she turned back. Complete surprise for her smile Fortunately for me she said yes, and liked the ring!

I proposed to her on a beach in Mustique at sunset.

Worked out quite well, was a bit of a challenge smuggling the ring to the island in the first place, and then getting it down to the beach without it being obvious I had something in my pocket, but she hadn't caught on at all which usually happens when I try to plan a surprise.

Good effort!
If there's ever a time for a guy to put some effort in, it's the proposal.
Having a ring made is always a bonus.

I think it was ruined afterwards when there was a rose petal bath drawn for us and we watched Bundesliga in the tub laugh
The entire day was absolutely surreal.

Thank you. Certainly no speeches.

I'm not going to do it on the actual day as that is reserved for me hehe

mine was nowhere as romantic as these.

we had both been cheated on by previous partners, so we always said we wouldn't get married again, happy with that.

then lying in bed 1 Sunday morning I just realised how much her and the 2 kids meant to me, so I asked her to marry me, she just laughed.

asking several more times, a month later she actually said 'you aren't joking are you, then yes' and we both blubbed smile

we got married nearly 10 years later, on Xmas eve, when I was arranging it all, the ladies involved all said how romantic, the men said, no chance of forgetting that then smile

there was snow and everything (she loves snow) and we had a great day.

coming up to 7 years married.

We normally have a Christmas day trip to London for shopping. I'd booked a cool hotel (Soho Hotel) and dinner at a posh place and had the ring in my pocket. I'd had it designed, I knew what she liked and it was from a jeweler who made their own stuff. I just didn't know the exact timing of wen. We did China town for lunch (nope), some shopping, Fortnums Champagne bar (nope) and eventually headed back to the hotel. In the bar we ordered some champagne cocktails and I offered to take the bags back to the room. What I really did was order champagne for the room in an hour.
I got back to the bar and she'd drunk half my cocktail.
Back in the room, chilled out on the bed, getting ready for the evening.

Knock, knock on the door. Champagne.

We sit down to open it and I pour. Just starting to drink and she says "this is the best day ever" to which I reply "I've not finished yet" and go down on one knee.

It was good night.

She had to then tell all her friends on the phone, they already knew though as I'd organised a party at our house the following day. They are all good actors. She had no idea although my parents nearly blew it as I spotted them walking down the street on our way home.
