What bikes have you owned through your life?

Here are mine (pics are from the web, not the actual bikes).

There was something before the striker but couldn't say what it was and didn't have a camera phone back then!

Raleigh Strika (Mk2) - Green

Raleigh Grifter (Mk2) - Silver

Ammaco Team Spirit (1983)

Marin Muirwoods (1992)

Specialized Roubaix Elite Compact (2012)

Similar start to the above, used to have a bike at home at one at the grandparents, so sometimes had two smile

Raleigh Budgie
Raleigh Strika (second hand, a bit tatty)
Raleigh Grifter (in blue)
Pro Lite BMX (looking back the rainbow colours were a bit.. errrr..well Google it you will see what I mean)!
Raleigh Equip racer, sold when I got my MTB.
Raleigh Memphis Mountain bike (got it as an xmas present in 1988 when I was 13 and still ride it occasionally now) it has huge nostalgic value to me, so I would never sell it smile
Boardman Comp 2012 MTB (current Mountain Bike).

Now thinking of a bike for the two miles to and from work, not sure whether to got for a cheap road bike around the £200-£250 mark or an even cheaper £130 Halfords "Bike Shaped Object" Hybrid that doesn't matter if it gets damaged, or rained on. My bank account is strongly telling me the latter hehe

Scott Comp Racing xc bike that I'd use for everything when I was a scamp. Buckled that frame after nose diving and flat landing a jump.
Trek Bruiser 3 FS. Transferred the parts to this. Didn't last long as I liked landing to flat off walls.
GT Chucker - used for djs, pretty cheap and cheerful.
Kona Stuff - replaced the GT after forks seized and started falling apart. Used for everything from DJs to DH to everything inbetween. No XC though!
Identiti Dr Jekyll - Swapped and upgraded the parts over onto this frame, really was my baby,

Then I bought a Commencal Mini DH/Supreme 6 frame and an NS Suburban frame and got enough parts to upgrade from my Dr Jekyll to these two bikes.
Commencal Mini DH with RS Totems
NS Suburban with RS Argyle.

GT XTC - acquired at uni whilst recovering from knee surgery. Got stolen.
Specailized Demo 8 - upgraded frame from Commencal to do proper DH with.

Bought a Lapierre Zesty 514 for trail/ enduro duties.

I still have the Specialized, NS and Lapierre.
Need to bring the Lapierre and NS to London so I can use them! They're just left hanging up back at the family home.

Nothing quite as extensive or exciting as previous posters, but...

1978-83'ish Raleigh Strika - silver, followed by a Grifter or similar - can't remember exactly

1983'ish, Elswick something I think - first road bike, all of 5 speeds, but rode 1000's of miles on it until I got...

1986 Peugeot Premiere 10-sp in metallic white. Put a few thousand miles on that too, and learned how to wheelie the length of our road on it. Got garaged around 1989, and my dad crashed it a year later.

Extended break for girls, beer and cars. Then house-buying and marriage.

1998 GT Tempest - bright orange, still have the frame ready for rebuilding, and the Marzocchi Flylight Airs
2004 Giant XTC2 - which I broke
2006 Giant XTC Zero - still have, converted to fully rigid and running 1.75" slicks
2006 Yeti 575 - awesome bike, broke the frame and negotiated...
2012 Yeti ASR5 - still ride - bit of a Triggers Broom - just the frame and rear shock are original
2016 Norco Search C105

Not as many bikes as most of you lot by the looks of it eek

I'm guessing we didn't have loads of money when we were kids as up until I was doing my cycling proficiency at primary school (aged 9-10?) we'd always had second hand bikes. I remember having a Raleigh Chipper for a while (small version of the Chopper without gears) a various others including some sort of upright bike with 3 speed hub gears which seemed massive to me when I first got it. It was probably this that I had when starting my cycling proficiency to which the instructor had issues with due to several things needing tightening up, adjusting etc., I went home crying about this which must have pissed of my Dad as shortly after I was the proud owner of a brand new Peugeot racer with 10 gears (2x5)! So starting there:

Peugeot Racer
Raleigh Record Sprint (my Dad's but I used to borrow it quite a bit).
Dawes Mountain Bike (no suspension, steel framed, alloy wheels, 3x6 gears(?) with indexing!).
Marin Mount Vision (2000) (full suspension X country MTB, 3x9 gears, V brakes, very light) - still got this, need to fix it.
Cube Nature Pro (2014) (hybrid (700c wheels), 3x10 gears, disc brakes) - current bike.

Excluding the first bike I had which I have no idea what it was. Save for Burgundy, hard solid rubber tyres (no tubes), fixie too. Something like this, but no plastic ste festooned.

I remember my best friend had a red Shwinn with big squishy tyres and CHROME mudguards. Much nicer. But then my Dad had an old Talbot Horizon and his Dad had an Uno Turbo. There was definitely no doubt we were on less money than others in the street. And it transferred into every aspect of your life, as it does.

laugh

Followed up by a "Yes BMX" (bought iirc from a local motocross shop of all places. Must ask my Dad why)

First mtb was a Ridgeback 602GS 1991ish

Had it for 3 years, spent most of my earnings on it. SPDs, bar ends, Flite seat, White Onza octopus tyre. XT bits, 7-8 speed conversiion Then it was stolen from outside the shop I did my paper round from frown

Replaced by a Rocky Mountain Fusion 94

Raced that, again spent all my money on it. Upgraded the groupset to XT bits. Bent the forks from doing jumps, took off the big ring and went into Trials for a while. Stopped riding once I got a car, my Dad took it to the dump probably 10 years later. I remember that cable guide on the stem being crap! Learnt a lot about how to fix an repair bikes from it though

Dyno Compe 94

Again with the money! laugh CD crank, peregrine wheels, mountain bike brake levers. Xposure Pegs. Camped at Backyard Jam with my mates. Got mugged for it a year or so later. frown And a broken nose and fractured eye socket for my trouble.

The bike was woefully underinsured so when I got the £250 back, I bought another

TBH, I never really got back into it. Not massively surprising given how I'd lost my last one. As a teen, it really affected me, more than I thought at the time, I became a lot more shy generally and risk aware the whole time, lost touch with a lot of my friends cause I wasn't riding often with them (this is all pre Mobile of course) Got chucked in probably 2002ish

Then until recently I had a GT Zaskar

Just used it to ride to the shops and pootle about on, never raced it, never went on the rides I used to up Surrey Hills. Recently was used as a commuter, with road tyres on. Seat tube finally fractured around the triple triangle, so frame is toast (it had a good run though!) and tbh the chainset is well knackered, brakes are worn out (2nd set in 6 years) so it'll be going to a local charity recyclers in due course.

I do have a TT bike, but I haven't ridden that in over a year and I suspect the internal cable stops are broken/fractured since it's pot luck if I can get the indexing right, and I do have a clue with that but I think there's something else at fault.

Not sure what happens next. I need to replace the commuter, but modern MTB don't have gearing suitable, so maybe we're looking at Hybrid or Cyclocross or even just a normal road bike.

I'm not sure whether to buy a frame module to rebuild the TT though. Maybe a BMC TimeMachine?

A bit of a gap between my early 20s through to my late 30s and I can’t fully remember the years as sometime I changed bikes within the same year but;

1990 – White Kona LavaDome – Deore LX group – my favourite old school bike
1990 – GT Zaskar (U-brake model)

1995 – Cannondale R100 road bike
1996 – GT Zaskar LE
1999 – Specialised FSR Elite
2011 – Specialised Allex Elite road bike (still own)
