Any places around Scotland I might take my son to see Fighter Jets?

He has a thing for them and really wants to see them.

Yeah, if you're lucky there are usually a couple of performance take offs during normal flying

A shame the Tornados are gone though frown

I think I saw a Typhoon near Lossie briefly before it disappeared into the low cloud on take off a few days ago.

I used to spent much more time in the area, but the noise sounded quite different to what I was used to from before which would have been Jags, Buccaneers, and Tornadoes.

My colleague was desperate to go and see more of them, but sadly we didn't really have time for a jolly on a school day.

The only flying station left in Scotland is Lossie.

There is a campsite just at the end of the runway (or use to be). We arrived during the weekend and it was very very quite.
6am Monday morning, none stop take off and landings, till about 8pm (I think, it was a while ago), all week.

Excellent!

I’m surprised there was flying at 6am any day of the week especially Monday! As suggested though weekdays are a must if you want to see flying.

For the last 7 or 8 years, the RAF have done a few evening flypasts for the Tattoo in Edinburgh, usually one of the 9pm weeknight starts and maybe later Saturday show. Has been anything from a pair of Typhoons/Tornados to a C-17 to the Red Arrows in the past. They line up over the Forth, fly over the Castle and then usually turn for home over the Airport. Not the most exciting/noisiest way to see them but stand anywhere between Calton Hill, Salisbury Crags and the top of the Mound and they're fly right overhead.

No word of any this year (it's the Navy's turn as lead service) but if you're near Edinburgh then worth keeping an eye on posts here - http://www.fightercontrol.co.uk/forum/viewforum.ph...
