This won't be popular with most but I'm going to say:

Germany.

I'm not from there but lived there a couple of times and I just felt really comfortable there. I love the UK, especially Scotland and Wales and I love the Netherlands but Germany feels like home and I miss it. Conversely I just don't fit in France, French people are weird.

How did I know that would be your answer with that username smile
I thought about putting that in my top 5 but I could not live the rest of my life eating various combinations of meat, potatoes, bread and cheese.

I agree, been to a few countries but love coming home. Just spent an extended stay in Portugal due to me not working, I enjoyed the time I was there but was glad to get home.

Everywhere else I've been just feels like a compromise one way or another if I lived there full time.

My wife says she wants to live in SW Florida, I like the place but I couldn't live there. Nice for a holiday but different if you had to get up everyday and go to work.

The nicest people that I have met so far were in Denmark , the country was a bit sterile though .
I thoroughly enjoyed living in Singapore for 5 years but that was 40 yrs ago .
The UK is great in parts but some areas are sh#tholes , and have been for a long time .

I'm a big fan of Germany too, and not surprisingly, Austria, which I slightly prefer.

I WOULD be tempted by Cape Cod for the US
Niagra on the Lake in Canada
and Costa Rica which I thought was stunning.

BUT for some strange reason I find the UK perfect even though it's pretty dirgy weather mostly (50 shades of grey).... but the places, scenery and variety outside of major cities is just stunning. The Peak District, SW (Cornwall, North Devon - esp round Lynmouth), Dorset, Norfolk, the Dales, North Wales, The lakes and Kendal....all absolutely stunning.

Dunno. The UK does a pretty good job for me.

Of everywhere I've been the place I'd least want to live would be the USA. Amazing scenery and fine people but the society they've created is not something I'd want to be a part of.

Can I offer Estonia?

Low population density

No H&S BS

No Pc BS

Great sense of social responsibility, no litter, chewing gum dog st and most involved in some way in defense.

Great public transport

Great social care i.e they don't just give money away, but look after those who need it.

Hot women in surplus to men

Good driving roads (if a little flat in places).
Can you elaborate? How do you know? Links? Cost of living?

Also travel extensively for work and I'm a dual citizen (British/Nigerian).

My top 5 in no particular order are:

Canada (lifestyle, big sky, weather, outdoors)
Germany (most things work, living standard, countryside/mountains, education, Austria is next door)
New Zealand (big sky, lifestyle, landscape)
USA (size/diversity, work opportunities, big sky)
UK (home, vibrant, landscape, diversity:so much packed into a small island)

Perception from max 8wk work trips and holidays + living in England and I could point out some obvious downsides but I'd do an international assignment without hesitation but always return to the UK. Just love spending time getting to know those countries

Leicestershire isn't the first stop on the Uk best places to live list though is it? Why not move somewhere else, the UK has lots of nicer places on offer?

Given the required folding, Mrs V & I have always said that home would be Shropshire but Italy would be a second home.

The holiday place would be a Greek island, these days probably Meganissi

I really can't bear Germany but would certainly put the Netherlands on my list. Hong Kong would also be up their as would Lebanon. France is always a banker

This.

There's a reason that this country is constantly ranked one of the happiest in the world pretty much every year.

Yes beer is expensive, like everything else but wages are high and the work/life balance is unreal and one of the most beautiful countries in the world only after Iceland....... . And I say that as a proud Welshman.
