Tell us something really trivial about your life (Vol 29)
Discussion
Sometimes things work out, sometimes not. Often I think 'why the fk did I start this'. Last week it was the fridge carnage plus various house electrical shenanigans and rebuilding an alternator (which is now scrap) and lapping in a set of valves to find two bent.
I cant weld. I would love to be able to. Instead I rivet and bolt, I've spent considerable time today looking for some small copper nails I was sure I had somewhere to turn into copper rivets to repair the clock bezel. Good news though at least I found the rivet Dolly that I thought I had accidentally dumped.

More on my ailment thing.
I'm fine during the day,if a little prone to cough but lying in bed I get bunged up and more coughing.
Which doesn't help with my lack of sleep ailment.
When I have vertigo I sleep at the dining table with my head on my arms. When I have bad heartburn I sleep sitting up in bed propped up on pillows. On really crowded trains I can sleep standing up.I'm fine during the day,if a little prone to cough but lying in bed I get bunged up and more coughing.
Which doesn't help with my lack of sleep ailment.
It took experimentation. Get experimenting.

Jeez, someone else has chimed in over there. They are very serious people you're aggravating.
It really wasnt intended that way, it started as an innocent comment as there has to be a place for every level of watch ownership. I’ve actually bought 3 proper vintage ones in the last 15 years and sold one, in fact my first ever purchase on Ebay was a Rolex! Being somewhat anal about details I do know what originality means and I would never for example get a non original part for the jeep - 4 years so far looking for an engine block with the right serial number stamped instead of getting a cheaper later one. And when it’s in you won’t even see the number it’s hidden. The Turkish replica is about as good as it gets and I’ve had a few which were inferior in detail. The point is I think that it’s way above a real one given its only 1% of the price !
Someone’s even said they wouldn’t be happy at all if they got a replica in their fathers will and would prefer nothing instead. I cherish my dads Casio as I know he did.
Anyway onward and upward enough of this seriousness. It’s Sunday and it’s not brass monkeys so I’m in the workshop for the first time in a month...

The lovely chap who bought the Aston phoned soon after he bought it:"There's a 2BA nut and bolt under the bonnet near the offside front wheel arch."
"Oh, yes?"
"It shouldn't be an ordinary 2BA nut and bolt. It should be a shouldered bolt into a captive nut. It's a special bolt; Astons would have made it themselves."
"Oh, sorry about that. Where is it exactly?"
"If you're standing by the offside front wheel with the bonnet open and you leant forward and bent down as far you could over the wing and looked up under the inside of the wing where it goes into the engine bay, it's up there."
"So, if you didn't know it was there you wouldn't normally see it?"
"No. But you haven't taken it out?"
"No."
"I'll have to have one made. I doubt they still stock it."
The notion that the fitter at Astons reached for the special bolt and found the box empty and put in a 2BA bolt instead hadn't occurred to him.
I'm all for originality but there has to be a limit. Original block, yes. A small incorrect bolt that may have been there all along, no. This way madness lies.
Lovely chap, bought me lunch last time I was passing.

It’s a big thing in Ford jeep circles to make sure every part is F marked. F marked bolts go for ridiculous money. It’s a fact that most jeeps were originally thrashed to within an inch of their lives and were kept going on random parts from destroyed jeeps so they all got mixed up anyway. Mines got a ford engine - knackered - out of a GPA amphibious one. Very rare so I’m tempted to rebuild it if I can’t get the right Willy’s one."There's a 2BA nut and bolt under the bonnet near the offside front wheel arch."

Morning chaps sadly those speshul people on the watch forum are like the rabid brand snobs on the whisky thread, if you're not sipping a rare numbered cask bottling then you're inferior and deserve to be ridiculed! They don't care about personal taste or financial circumstances, and It's exactly the same with the watch bores, my most expensive watch was £200 the cheapest £90 they are to my taste and pocket, as for the originality on the jeep that's a different story all together I applaud you for keeping it as original as possible, but a 2ba bolt? Anal to another level!!!!!

I’ll take a visit over to there sometime but I can understand the big bucks whiskey stuff and like your whole collection thing particularly as it’s a ‘working collection’ !I’m not sure I agree on the watch forum. I don’t go there often (mainly the wrist and incoming threads).
Yes, they are watch geeks and there is a lot of showing off of wealth but I don’t think I’ve seen any animosity to those that can’t afford (or want) expensive watches. People post up £50 watches that are discussed cordially.
What does go down badly are fakes. Homages are a little controversial too though usually accepted. But cheap, original-design watches are fine. There is a bit of banter about some of the brands but usually it is good natured.
