A bit council (Vol 3)

I can see his point on a number of those....
If I've got the time, I'll always choose to walk rather than pay for taxis or public transport. It's better for me, and leaves me with money to spend on something else. If I'm at an airport with bags, then no, I wouldn't walk to the hotel unless it was literally in the airport itself, but given that many decent hotels near airports have free, regular shuttle services, surely not bothering to find out before spending £20+ on a taxi just underlines that notion of a fool and his money being easily parted?
The pub one does also piss me off somewhat as well. If drinks are similarly priced, then fine, but don't go ordering an expensive single malt or a double with mixer when you're out with others drinking pints, especially if you're then going to drink it much faster and offer to get your round in when everyone else is only half way down their pint or less. I used to work with a guy who would order a single house gin & tonic when it was his round, then ask for a large designer gin & tonic when it was someone else's round. .
Not sure about this Kermit, I feel as if I’m walking into a trap, but hey-ho, I’m sitting at the table, I may as well ante-up and kick some chips in.If I've got the time, I'll always choose to walk rather than pay for taxis or public transport. I’m always game for a walk, does you good I’m told, and I’m glad that I’m still able, I never get out of breath, but after a while, my legs will ache, and I’ll take a 15 second respite.
However, it’s rare to land somewhere without some kind of bag, even if it’s one night only in a hotel, you’ll probably be toting at least 3 or 4 kilos, minimum.
I think if it was a 1 to 1.5 km schlep to the hotel, I’d get a taxi.
As for shuttles, yes, at almost all big U.S. airports you’ll find shuttle buses to the main hotels, not so much at Bilbao, or Blagnac, Toulouse, France, for instance.
Also, when exiting arrivals, you’ll see signs indicating shuttle buses, it’s the work of seconds to find out if your hotel has a shuttle service, no? okay, continue to taxi rank.
As for the drinks thing, EVERYONE who knows me, I mean my friends and family, knows that I’ve had maybe 5 beers in the past 35-40 years, and even then, only somewhere that the temp has been 33-34c or more, aside from that, it has ALWAYS been vodka, occasionally with tonic, or bourbon on the rocks.
If I’m in a crowd, either we all kick in £20 apiece, and no one cares who drinks what, if the whip runs low, then ante up another £10 each.
If I’m with 2 or 3 others, and we buy rounds alternately, I’ll have a vodka or a bourbon when someone else is in the chair, and a double when I’m buying.
If someone who normally drinks say cider, or bitter, decides he fancies a cognac, that’s what he gets, we all know each other well enough to know that no one takes the pi$$.

Long walks to save taxi money is tolerable based on the circumstances. My Mrs would never entertain anything like a 1-1.5km walk with a rucksack each to save €15. I’d gladly do that, the exercise would be very welcome and very much manageable.
When I lived in Edinburgh, I’d regularly walk from Merchiston to Abbeyhill, took about an hour but is easy exercise and when the traffic was bks, as it usually was, then the time saving compared to the bus is negligible.

Maybe try reading what I actually wrote, then posting again? You appear to be vehemently agreeing with me?
Yes I was I guess, I try to get on with most people if it’s possible.Granted, on re-reading your post, you DID say that wouldn’t walk to a hotel outside of the airport if you had bags, and I appeared to skate over that, apologies.
I think that we were both broadly on the same page on the buying spirits or buying beers thing. As I recall, you weren’t happy about people taking the pi$$, buying the house crap when it was their round, and asking for a double from the top shelf from others in the party when the others were buying.
I hope I explained that I don’t do that, BUT, the guys I drink with would be perfectly happy to get someone a Napoleon brandy if they fancied one, even if the brandy drinker had been drinking pints of lager before that.
Why is all this drinks and hotel/taxi/luggage things in the council thread.
Lots of buying rounds an no mention of the shape of the roof of the pub.
Plus the only time anyone council would have visited Bilbao would have been in 1982 and they would have worn this.
And when you're all inclusive, the coach takes you to your trough/pit/bar combo palace of choice dunnit.

You’re right ttt, I was trying to straighten out a very slight misunderstanding with Kermit, please accept my apologies.Lots of buying rounds an no mention of the shape of the roof of the pub.

As for travelling by coach, ugh, and going all inclusive, ,even a worse disgrace, that way lies social ignominy, and banishment to Milton Keynes, or somewhere else uninteresting, but I guess that if a person leaned toward being Council, that would hold no fears for them.

Point missed.Council won’t wear unofficial, they’ll purchase the real deal no matter the cost or if they’ll have to go without their Stella for a week.
I dropped £100 on a team shirt for the World Cup - only wore it once as they were sent into Group stage oblivion - and went without Stella for the duration!
*Probably because I don't actually drink Stella

This must be different areas/towns/county’s, Stella is a decent lager in most decent bars/pubs (can’t speak for Wetherspoons as don’t go in any).
Nope it’s council everywhere.Gassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
