Puggit, serious advice please...

Need to drive:

Yorkshire Dales to Goodwood @ 0500 Feb 26th

Goodwood to Yorkshire Dales @ 1100 Feb 28th

The return trip is absolutely non negotiable, I'd have to borrow a chinook if pressed.

Am I dooooooomed?
At this point all we know is that it will be cold, with that arriving on the east coast most likely Sunday.

Keep an eye in here and on the official forecasts for 28th. Increasing chance you'll be disrupted. At this distance we can't tell. 72 hours really is the max for forecasting snow.

If it helps I'm due to fly EDI-LHR (back to home) on 28th and I'm nervous.

LOL, if that model pulls off the UK will be in serious trouble if it brings snow with it, the infrastructure will collapse totally for several days.

Even if it is dry there is potential for black-outs if the grid struggles, that is cold temperatures across the UK like we have not seen for decades and for a sustained period.

Just looked at the Google weather forecast and it has this weekend down as about 1 DegC, how come this excitement isn't feeding into the mainstream forecasts yet? Is it just too early to be worth getting everyone excited?

I’d close the office now, Melman. Just to be on the safe side

Because that's correct.

It's next week that counts. I've signed up to Met office tweets today to see when they raise the flag.

bounce

2 tonnes of logs ordered for Friday
stocked up on hot chocolate
digging sledges and snowboards out of garage

too soon?

Ohhhhh, I think I may have turned two pages at once and missed a bit. So when do the models suggest we may see this historic cold event? Monday onwards or later?

Keeping my fingers crossed I'm not stuck in the office, although if it snows then even that would be a great chance to try out my Cross Climates smile

I have also ordered logs this morning.

Remarkable agreement between the models does give increasing confidence that something exciting is on the way...

I've just ordered half a tonne of coal to see us through the worst of it. This means that as soon as the temperature drops below freezing my Mrs will have the open fire and the multi-fuel roaring away.

You'll be able to spot our house as it will be the only one with the windows open when it's -9 outside, to try and keep the internal temperature fit for the existence of multi-cellular life.....

I hope we don't get a lot of snow, just enough to make my garden look tidy.

Some weather models are suggesting temps down to -10c and 10-40cm of snow this Sun to Weds, for the coldest and snowiest period in southern England since the 1980s.

Outside Scotland, though, the models usually disappoint beyond ~48hrs. So, don't get hopes too high...

Looking forward to enjoying some warm, early spring sunshine then.
