You've been looking for a while now....Any joy?
It's money mate. There's been too much uncertainty around mine & Mrs's jobs to borrow on the mortgage, and we need to do some work on the house which I admit is probably needs to be a priority.
But yes, there are at least two woods I'd buy tomorrow if I could... then you'd be cordially invited to eat smoky meat, drink and shoot to your heart's content! -Also, later into the evening (I don't know how this private messaging works) but when you think about it, there's no real difference between a man and a woman's mouth ifyouknowwhatI'msayingandIthinkyouprobablydo. ;)
I'd love to own one. I think it would be great for all the reasons listed. Peace, tranquility, wildlife and the opportunity to site something small just to enjoy the woodland for a bit longer. I'd probably look at sustainable woodland management too in an effort to reap the benefits with free wood, but at the same time conserving whats there for future generations.
A quick google suggests about £10k an acre. Is that about right?

Depends where you're looking. Some places a bit less, some a bit more.A quick google suggests about £10k an acre. Is that about right?
Broadleaf woods tend to have more value from a hobby point of view. Coniferous woods have an instant harvest value subject to felling licenses being agreed. You can work to a longer term plan replanting broadleaf with some grant based help in certain circumstances although I know less about that.
You need to be careful too. Some woods have public footpaths running through them, some have enormous power lines crackling away overhead. Access is vital and needs to be sound from a legal point of view. Some woods are boggy and useless, some are sold as 'woodland' but are scrubby plantations you can't enjoy for 20 years. As noted above some are so steep you'd need ropes to keep you safe. Here and there you can be purchasing woods that are full of disease., -everyone has heard about ash dieback but there are other diseases that you need a trained eye to spot.

No real plans for it other than to have a nice place to look after going forward. They had plans to convert it into a camp site with yurts but pregnancy has got in the way of plans. Relatively cheap investment for what it is though.
I bought just over 3 acres of woodland last year, about 30 minutes from me. Has a small stream running through it. Its a bolt hole/dog playground but we've only used it a few times. We've cleared an area for a campsite and at some point will clear a few trees, build some cool stuff, just general playing. It is super relaxing when there though it isn't that far from the road. Hoping to take my nephews there soon for some nerf wars
Will camp overnight there at some point, like everything else just don't have the time! Cost me 25k.

You can buy a plot of land on the moon as well, get a title document and everything.
Also stars, they are for sale. You can buy one and point up in the sky at it and tell your friend it's yours.
I haven't yet but i would like to.

guy near me owns a bit, its used (rented) fortnightly for airsoft so will be generating some income, and alternate weeks by offroad bikers for a general razz round without being tugged by police
he also on occasion sells shooting permits for rough shooting but the dates were so infrequent and most of the wildlife had fled due to the bike noise and people playing war :-)

Yeah, you've never burst into someone's tent for a surprise and slightly scary man-cuddle when you're tired and emotional.
Ever...
Just giving you the tools should you ever find yourself in your tent with a recently separated and confused brown bear looking for some love...Just give it some beer and suggest putting some clothes on.Ever...
You can thank me any time you like.

People wanting to buy woodland through the main UK agents these days might find that covenants around use have to be signed as conditions of sale. This normally writes off any motor racing or firearms. he also on occasion sells shooting permits for rough shooting but the dates were so infrequent and most of the wildlife had fled due to the bike noise and people playing war :-)

I'd quite like to own a bit to build my own mini nature reserve. I'd like to put a poncy shed acting as a photography hide and use it, probably for personal use but I could take others there too. .
Yup this is exactly what I'd do. I'd be pretty comfortable managing a few acres as I have badass chainsaw, fencing etc skills already. Honestly would rather have my own bird hide overlooking a large pond in a quiet bit of deciduous woodland than own most of the cars people on here buy for 10's or 100's of thousands (and I really do love cars too). The idea of having a peaceful getaway/camping place that I could work in, build things, carve, create habitat, encourage and monitor wildlife, practice my photography etc is super appealing.
I'm guessing some people just like working in offices, drinking and eating out and then going home and playing with gadgets (all without leaving their city). And so their connection with the outdoors, and hence 'what to do' with woodland is completely lost.
