The forty-year feud: As Likely Lads star Rodney Bewes dies at 79, how a rift with his more famous co-star lasted decades, cost him a fortune and is the reason repeats of legendary sitcom didn't appear for years

We had, 'Palma non sine pulvere.'

Meaning? The palm of victory isn't won without the dust of battle.

If you say so.

I preferred, 'Omnes in faecibus sumus, sole profundis variat.'

Work it out...
Using a pencil? smile

I'm no Latin linguist, but I always liked the motto:

Nil carborundum illegitemi

As well as the old Norman one:

Pas d'elle yeux Rhône que nous

Some might question the translation but it means, 'We are all in the st, only the depth varies.'

Enough of the Latin lesson then biggrin

Here's my Mum at the counter of our shop in Euston c. early 60s. We saw the Post Offcie Tower go up when we were there - amazing.

It was a tough life growing up around all those sweets and jars, jubblies and Wall's Ice cream in wafers wink

yes They were glass then, at a later shop they evetually became plastic. I can still still recall the smell of the custard & creams, barley sugars and cola cubes smile

Anyone remember Laskys ?

A proper Hi Fifelity shop.

We bought our first family Hi Fi there in the mid 70’s.

I remember we bought some Super hi fi LP’s that you played at 45. I think Dark Side of the moon was one of them.

We had some rather large Marantz speakers that the foam resembled a chocolate bar.

Not so much Laskys, but definitly remember waking up to music. And how opinions were swayed at the time by peers.
