When I was young enough to see that brand it was discombobulating to hear the same crowd were somehow implicated in third World dictatorships (ITT being part of the backing for Pinochet and acting with the CIA).

Buy a TV and overthrow communism all in one transaction.

My last CRT left our house just ten years ago - all 65Kg of Sony fabulousness removed by those nice men from John Lewis who delivered the plasma (remember them??). With a 32" screen and in-built sub woofer it dominated one corner of the room, and had five scart sockets (profligate or what?).

Another thought - is it just me or did contemporary TV/films overlook smoking (being as it was an everyday habit for the majority), but when I watch a modern drama set in that period smoking is much, much more obvious? I'm watching Mad Men at the mo...
Ah the heavy Sonys. I had around '92 one hell of a beast. I will try and look up some piccies for it.
As regards smoking - not sure if you watch say UFO there is some serious smoking go on. The Sweeney ditto.

Right from the off which was I think October '91 it had a flaw. On some CD's it will skip the first track and go straight to the second. I never took it back for repair. I just used it to play CD's. And it has ever since.
Along the way I was burgled and unfortunately the original remote was taken. As Meridian used a Philips base it was a rebadged Philips remote and Meridian replaced it at modest cost with the only one they then carried a completely basic one.
Anyway the player is great and whilst I have borrowed overs along the way I couldn't see any reason to change it

The first gen CD players were beautifully engineered, back in 1984 I bought one of these from Sevenoaks HiFi. Marantz CD 73, I should have hung on to it.

I had it hooked up to a Nytech amp and Royd Conistan speakers, they were the days!

Although I’m sure my Beosound 8 sounds just as good.

Couldn't afford a premium SLR camera back in the 70s
Good old Russia came up with the Zenit E
And according to Wikipedia they are back in the mix
A bit like the Skoda story

My Gran had one of those installed in her house in 1977.
(The same doorbell was still in use until she was carried out of the house in a coffin in 2011!)

I used a Zenith for the years between about 1970 and 1974 or until I started using a Practika SLR. I still have a Zenith auto-focus enlarger bought for £20 new. The lens was a bit second rate but the mount was standard thread so a decent lens could be used. The non-Soviet enlargers at the time were at least twice that price even for a basic one. Never had a Sekonda watch though...

They'd been ringing a long time.

Our first video recorder was the totally-forgotten Video 2000 format (a Grundig I think). We replaced that with a Sony Betamax, and that with a Panasonic S-VHS. I also had a Hi-8 camcorder so I've had every format except standard VHS!

I note your Video 2000 - the only one you could flip over ?
But I raise you the 1700 format as promoted by Visionhire circa 1980 ish

We had the Ferguson telly, rented from the Co-op. I thought it was time my lad discovered the interaction between an electron beam & a magnetic field, so borrowed an Eclipse major magnet from the lab. Those magnets weighed about 8lbs & if you dropped a 6 inch nail across the poles it was almost impossible to pull it off.
With the telly on we had a go - ooohh look the picture`s all wobbly, lets pull his face over here & look now it`s gone a funny colour - the picture wants to go to the magnet ...
After 10 mins of fun we stopped but the screen had developed a strangely coloured cloud over most of the massive 24" screen.
It seems something permanent had happened....
The bloke in the Co-op said they`d never seen anything quite like that before but they`d just got some brand new sets in & would deliver one the next day, so I`m afraid I kept quiet. My lad ended up as a specialist on engine management circuitry so maybe it served a purpose!
