Anyone worked for Parcelforce?
Discussion
MrsSE is considering applying as a delivery driver, temp with potential permanent after Xmas.
It seems to be employed rather than self-employed Yodel style... wages are reasonable for the area, but if shes going to come home full of thunder then it'll be no good - any experience chaps?

Yeah, it's an hourly paid job, not self-employed or paid by the drop. She'll get paid for any overtime she does with no arguments.
Should start off fairly gently to learn the ropes but then probably will be expected to do a decent amount.
Long hours though. 11 hour shifts are the norm, with a 40 minute break. Probably end up working through dinner breaks at first to catch up and make a good impression if you want to be kept on.
Decent chance of being kept on after the Christmas rush, then permenantly if she's good.
It can be hard work, especially until you've been there a while and learned some routes, but it's not a bad job really.

I'm a postie and there really clamping down on people not having a break and working 8 hours straight.
No. They say you have to have a break, but you're obviously encouraged to get all your deliveries done. You won't get bked for bringing parcels back, but when it comes to choosing who to keep on after Christmas, the person who's cleared their route every day will obviously look better.
I guess they could check through your scan log and find out if you had a break, but they don't habitually check it.
Cor. 8 hour shifts sounds nice. Haha.

Don't know if it makes a difference, but it's not continuous driving, is it? You're constantly in and out of your van.
Company policy is a 40 minute break per day. Rota'd shifts are between 8 and 11.5 hours. You're not supposed to work more than 11.5 hours.
7.5 ton van drivers are strict on breaks due to the tachos, but there aren't many of those.

We do 6 days a week for 5 weeks then have the 6th week off plus 5 weeks holiday.
Do you get the option to buy more holiday ?
