I took out the fuel pump of the gas tank to test it- I removed the gas tank, took off the fuel filter. disconnected the fuel injector hose to the fuel pump.

I wanted to do something like this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFuSvNtbVBM

then reconnected the fuel pump to the motorbike so that I see if I could hear the whirring hum sound you hear for a few seconds when you turn on the ignition. No sound. Power was reaching the pump I used a multimeter to check- there would be a spike in voltage for a few seconds when ignition turned.

I then thought maybe it's because the fuel injector hose (still connected to fuel injector hose which itself is also plugged into engine) is not connected to the fuel pump- that must be why it can't prime....Nope. nothing.

There is no way there can be anything wrong with this pump- the bike was running like clockwork before I decided it strip it and test it...
Must it be in the gas tank with the gas tank having some fuel in it, in order to hear that humming sound at the start? If that's the case I'm really confused by that video...

Yes I'm sure but need to look at the present problem and find an explanation/fix

It was running fine. You fiddled with something you don't understand. Now it's broken.

Hence the saying: if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Sure you have got the polarity right at the pump?

PS the guy in that YouTube video is an idiot. Don't copy them. The pump is designed to run in fuel, not air. Also be aware that spraying petrol around can be extremely dangerous, especially when you add the potential for sparks from makeshift wiring, and even more so if you were silly enough to do this anywhere near your fuel tank.

It's a wiring connector which connects to it and there's only one way it goes on.

What voltage are you getting across the pump?

I was wrong about the slight spike in voltage I mentioned sorry tongue out
0V before ignition turned on. 0 V after ignition turned on

So which part of this post ties in with the first post where you say power was getting to the pump?

I tested again and realised I fked up. I mistook multimeter fluctuations at near 0 voltage for actual voltage reading. It fluctuated at the wrong time. I think the ECM is cutting power to the pump because it detects there's no fuel.

I think you should put it back together as close as possible to how you found it and hope it works afterwards.
