This. 100% this.

I don't believe in ghosts either but to repeatedly troll a ghost thread about the fact you don't believe in them is somewhat odd to put it kindly.
It's not trolling. It's disagreeing and offering plausible, probable possibilities. Trolling is something else entirely. Also, the thread quite explicitly asked for thoughts - it's right up there in the title - but doesn't state that those thoughts need to agree with people who believe in ghosts. The supernatural, paranormal and woo threads are fun because they should encourage debate about a fascinating subject but the reality is that anyone who doesn't believe is labeled as a troll or a trouble-maker. You yourself actually accused me of trolling because I asked someone for more information about what they experienced.

Would you like to contribute something to the discussion, perhaps?

The thread did ask for thoughts, unlike the other one that just asked for stories to be posted.

If the info comes back, and I am interested in seeing it, then job done. However if "thoughts" are in the title then perhaps people can chuck their thoughts in.

Debate is fine, but repeated arguments and opinions just get dull, so I always scroll past them and get to the (much) more interesting posts of peoples experiences.

Job done. smile

15pages not 56.

It's labouring a point. We get it. You don't believe.

So then it goes onto...

Can you see any of the open minded posters accusing the others as having mental illnesses

Or needing MRI scans?

If I saw a thread saying a car had the best handling. I'd post up my thoughts then leave it.

You saw that as a bad thing? I think you'll also find that I saw we're all mentally ill. Are you open-minded to everything apart from a real possibility of mental illness?

You and twiglet just seem to ‘not want’ the thread. I don’t know why. Just grow up and move on.
Far from being open minded, you’re just plain boring. The car thread analogy is bang on.

Ok, I have something else happening in my house!

Last night I heard some noise in my attic, it was the sound of two mousetraps being activated about five minutes apart.

This morning I went to collect the poor unfortunate mice and there was nothing there, just two mousetraps that needed resetting.

That was either ghosts, or some kind of physical entity that can set off a mouse trap but not get caught up in it.

Must be ghostssmile

Do you take that stance with everyone who disagrees with you and your beliefs?

Mate, you're just not wired right. Take a step back, breathe and try to change the perspective. If everyone's telling you you've gone postal it's probably because you've gone postal. You don't believe in the supernatural, we got that. Move on. How can this thread possibly matter to you this much? rolleyes

So, what was the significance of the food mixer then? confused

I'm merely responding to comments posted. Also, postal implies a degree of mania, which simply isn't present. I'm more than happy to engage in debate but that appears doesn't appear to be reciprocated. Is this thread purely for people who believe in the supernatural?

There is a difference between someone that knows something is true because they understand the subject, and someone that thinks something is true, because they have been told as much without fully or even slightly understanding the subject. The latter tend to be condescending which is ironic as they are in fact as clueless as those they are patronising.

Has it not occurred to you that perhaps people enjoy reading ghost stories without the pub bore relentlessly chiming in with something along the lines of 'Actually I think you'll find...................'

Fine to state you don't believe in ghosts. Fine to point out alternative explanations. Not fine to relentlessly post in a thread, often in a sneering, supercilious tone, when others have asked you to please stop as they get your point.

There's a thread for ghost stories. This is quite explicity asking for thoughts about them and yes, I relentlessly chime in with possibilities and rational explanations. I don't think I've ever categorically stated that 'it was the wind' or 'its an old house' or anything else definitive.

I haven't said anything about any of the stories for quite some time. All I've done for the last couple of pages is defend myself against people telling me I shouldn't be posting on a thread I should be posting on because I genuinely find it fascinating.

Has it not occurred to you that perhaps you should post your thoughts and opinions rather than just sniping at me because, yet again, I happen to disagree with you? If you don't want to do that and you want to continue telling me reasons why you think I shouldn't post on the thread, that's entirely up to you but I will respond and it appears that you're going to dislike whatever I respond with, no matter how polite or considered.

As for the sneering, supercilious tone; in the last few pages I've been called a bell-end, a power-ranger (still not sure about that) and its been suggested that I'm under a Care in the Community scheme. You've called me a troll, twice, because I simply disagree with a lot of people on here.

I'd like to see the thread get back on track. What would you like?

It's amusing that I called you out for trolling on page 6 of this thread. And also mentioned you making repeated smartarse comments with no constructive input.

Which you proceeded to get defensive about.

And yet here we on page 56 and the sum total of your input to this thread is?

Christ knows how you haven't been banned from it tbh.
Until the rules state you can be banned for disagreeing with someone, I don't believe I'm in a huge amount of danger.

My contribution to this thread has largely been rational, logical, possible explanations of some events with a smattering of debunking. Seeking truth is not a trait I'm particularly ashamed of.
You are in danger. I was banned from the last paranormal thread for adopting your position. The trouble with the woo brigade is that they are very insecure, and suggestions that they have imagined something has them running to the mods crying like children about being bullied.
So why do it? Why not leave them to exchange their camp-fire stories in peace; you're certainly not going to shock them in to rationality. If you actually want to discuss the psychology of believing in bks, then start a thread for that purpose, it might be amusing.
What, you mean like a thread where the title asks for our thoughts? I'll look out for one.

Perhaps it might be an idea to reflect on what people are saying generally rather than focusing on the name calling. If several people (i.e., more than one) are, more or less, pointing out the same thing does mean everyone else is incorrect and you are right?

Anyway I'm not saying anything else now you'll be relieved to know as I suspect it is falling on deaf ears. Please carry on.
