It wasn't until I was pretty old that i discovered that "Fatigue" is pronounced "fat-eeg". I thought it was "fatty-gew"

The reason I mention this is that I recall a joke in a comic where a young lad is doing his homework and asks his mum "What's 'fatigue' ?" - To which mum replies "sausage and chips".

Genuinely didn't understand that for at least 10-15 years.

In our rear lounge (we have two) There is a gas fire that I struggle to light. I have for the last year resorted to turning on the gas and striking a match in the radiant bar things.
It isn't used very often

Imagine my surprise when this morning it was receiving its yearly service and I commentated to the guy about the problem lighting it. He duly did it and ping it lit immediately. Off for ten minutes and ping lit again
It appears that its me who is the problem. It can only be lit with the button thing if the gas is at the very lowest turn on setting not the higher setting I was turning it to

I didn't know that
I thought you were going to say it turns out it was an electric fire hehe

You'll need to change your username to Notsotechiedave.

My gas fire can only be lit at the lower setting. Once it's alight then the knob can be rotated to any position.

Well yes maybe. I did find it quite amusing.

whereas on my gas hob, it turns on at any position, but the first position is the highest, rather than the lowest.

Is that because you installed the hob back to front ?
Think about it

I've always switched my telly on by pressing the standby button. This week my wife told me that pressing any button on the remote does the same thing.

Every telly I've had this century has had this feature and I've only just found out.

I did not know the phot upload on PH mobile can upload from your iPhone library. I just assumed it was desktop only. I’ve been emailing the photo to myself and uploading on my desktop for years!

Here is an example of an image I saved to my iPhone and have now uploaded.

The latest MX-5 does have a 12v socket, though you will never find it till someone shows you its location. Also the bit of string in the cubbybox of the RF is for pulling the roof up if you have a flat battery though you need an honours degree in scout ropework to get it to work.

The little plastic finger thing in the boot of your VAG car with a spare wheel kit is for locating the wheel on the hub as VAG use wheel bolts which is a crap idea & not studs as they are cheapskates.

I'm 50 and just two years ago I found out that Good King Wenceless didn't last look out on the feast of Stephen and that his name was Wenceslas!
I'm 47 and I found this out ages ago...... Er 21:38 today
It's really a bit embarrassing isn't it?! I guess both you and I only ever heard people sing it and hadn't actually read the words.
So did they really eat Stephen?
No, they had pizza - deep pan, crisp and even.
This confusion is called a mondegreen.

Somewhat a departure from the thread title - this is an arcane thing I did already know... wink

This is a genuine question. I'm intrigued-how did you get Jill from the fish outline?

I was shown by my 9 year old that if you pull a ring pull tab all the way over on a can of coke so it covers the hole, you can put a straw through it and it’ll stay in place. I expect it works with lager cans as well, should you wish to drink your lager via a straw. In public.

Thankyou so much for that Top Tip.thumbup

I genuinely never knew that, it has come just at the right time to be of great use when taking my grandkids out for a coke.
Now how do we keep the straw from rising up in bottles of fizzy stuff?

i knew this afew years ago but it was a total game changer.

In McDs (or any fast food place) that serves the small white condiment cups so you can serve your own sauce. the cups can be expanded to be made bigger or go flat.

.
(image taken from the web)

it makes dipping nuggets, chips or even your burger into it a whole lot easier.
