I don’t like this uninformative “plant based” description. A cow pat is plant based...Definitely. Meat products mostly shout from the rooftops about what meat they contain (even if it's a tiny percentage, and a cheap cut). I'm sick of having veganism and vegetarianism sold to me like some kind of health and environmental panacea, only to find that the clowns trying to sell it to me either a) have no clue themselves what exactly is in their products, or b) being embarrassed by what's in their products to the point where they have to hide the identity of their ingredients behind the "plant based" catch-all. FFS, my Sunday roast is "plant based". Potatoes, peas, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, beans. Even my Yorkshire puds. It's just that I top it off with meat of some sort.
"Plant based" isn't even the same as "Meat Free" - hence why I'd get away with a 90% vegetable dish topped with a prime cut of beef or lamb, and state that it was "plant based". I'm not against vegans, or vegetarians. My sister-in-law is a veggie and makes some lovely dishes. Their local Indian takeaway sells great meat free curries and I'm happy to share what my s-i-l is eating even though my brother isn't a veggie like her. I order vegetarian, and occasionally vegan dishes in restaurants if they're what I'm in the mood for.
But I'm not likely to order something like that Rebel Whopper simply because I feel I'm having the wool pulled over my eyes about what is actually in it, because they're too busy assuring me that it doesn't have any actual dead animal content. If it's sweet potato, or pulses, or rice, or whatever, then tell me, and let me make up my own mind if it's what I want to eat.
Although, maybe this is a discussion for another thread, as I've just scrolled up the page and realised that this was supposed to be a thread that makes me laugh, not launch into a rant...
