Isn't it actually pronounced Berkley hunt as in jerk and not Berkley hunt as park? Which would make the insult, berk, correct.

Btw, it is not Shirley,Shirley is a girl's name. The word is surely. And yes I have seen Airplane and it was funny then but now some people appear to think that the word is spelled that way.

Valentines Day? You're annoyed about that?*

Within days of Christmas there were Easter goods on display in many stores. Creme Eggs, cards, Easter Eggs, hollow chocolate bunnies, etc.

Compared to Easter stuff, Valentines cards are fair game, I'd say. It's only four weeks away after all...

FYI, he didn't say "Shirley", he said "Shirely". Which prompted me to ask the question:

Yes, in our shop we have Valentines cards out on display. Why? customers ask for them. Speaking of Chrismas, a lot of folk start preparing for the big day as soon as the kids go back after the summer holidays, hence the 'early' appearance of cards in some establishments.

Never mind that, convenience stores are now stocking Easter Eggs. Supermarkets are bad enough but why waste limited shelf space in a convenience store on that?

The phrase 'starred in' when applied to some minor actor/actress who appeared in a film/TV show/Tena Lady advert.

Once upon a time the term 'starring role' seemed to mean one or maybe two of the cast. Now it seems pretty much anyone who - accidently or otherwise - got in front of the lens is allowed to claim they 'starred' in it.

These modern ways. It'll all end in tears.

"Popularism" becoming a word for something bad or looked down upon.

Trump, Brexit, other election results, etc.

I can understand why someone may disagree with any of the above, but to condemn it simply because it is popular is ridiculous.

I don't like much pop music, not because it is popular though, simply because to my ear it is ste. This doesn't make it wrong though.

The term "populist" in a political sense means a politician who is trying to get elected by saying or doing things that ordinary people like (AKA: realpolitik). Its meaning has been co-opted by Trump, Brexit, et al. who aren't populist, rather they've whipped crowds into a frenzy. Trump is a firebrand... his PR prefers him to be called populist because a firebrand is not a good thing.
