Indeed, and in a similar vein, 'booking fees'. That drives me mad, a charge for the privilege of paying someone. confused

And another one, people typing 'SPA' in stead of 'Spa' for the F1 circuit.

Why do they have to shout the word?

People that get on the subway (not the London underground, a much smaller system!) when it is busy and just stand in the space at the door whilst people struggle to squeeze in. Move down the train, for Gods sake! Then when you ask them to, they look at you like you have three heads and just asked you to sacrifice their baby to you.

A really dull and snowing morning this morning and 4 out of 10 cars with no lights on !!!!! s
Last Sunday in Scotland. Total whiteout on the roads, couldn't see far at all. 50% of cars with zero lights on or just day time running. I cannot comprehend that level of stupidity.

I wonder if that is partly due to the ubiquity of automatic headlights nowadays. Mine don't always come on when I think they should be on. Mind you, I then turn them on ...

The woman in front of me in the supermarket last night who stood there with her purse in hand (so she at least had that bit ready, which is a common complaint on this thread) watching the check out girl scan her entire basket of shopping and deposit it on the conveyer, then paid, and only then started to pack her bag! Luckily it was one of those shops that has a bar they pull across so my shopping could go to the other side. I'd packed my stuff in my bag, paid and was out of the shop while she was still packing!

Don't all automatic lights come on if your wipers activate?

I know what he means though.

Floor to me implies a level of surface finish, associated with being indoors.

Not a hard-and-fast rule, but I'd tend to use 'ground' outdoors and 'floor' indoors.

Didn't they existed any more.

Perhaps the person telling the anecdote to the OP was inside in a car park or garage?

I would say that "ground" was unfinished outdoor space, not a finished road surface.

But I can't now make my mind up what to call it in the scenario where they did fall on the tarmacked surface.
Road/pavement I suppose

I was thinking as I typed it that I hadn't seen one like that in the UK in a long time, but it seems to standard over here (NL) biggrin.

Bloody good system if people are rubbish about getting their stuff off the belts, and a significant proportion of your customers are foreigners who take a while to pay as they've just discovered the card machine doesn't accept either Visa or MasterCard (another thing that annoys me beyond reason)

Assuming you mean the Glasgow Subway - yes, really annoying as the trains aren't that big anyway!

They're breaking it down to show you what the money is spent on, if they just gave you a total you'd be happier, ignorance is bliss.
If they broke it down even further you would have cause to be even more annoyed....
