...at home, only to find the next morning the boot of your car has been open all night?

Not me, you understand, but 'someone else' who drives the car has now done this twice. Luckily it wasn't raining and I didn't find a family of foxes camped in there, but I can't find a way to stop it from easily happening or alerting me the doors/boot aren't locked.

Can the keyfob be programmed so it needs two presses to open the boot, or something similar? It's an F30 if that helps.

I think the older BMW remotes were less likely to suffer from this than the newer ones (introduced in maybe 2011), but I've certainly opened my windows accidentally when sitting on the sofa with the keys in my pocket before. My keys are now removed from my pocket as soon as I get in my house.

Try all windows open whilst it’s snowing. Still haven’t identified culprit five years later. Nightly check just before going up stairs and ensure fob isn’t in danger of being “remotely” operated by other crap (ie take it out of pocket and set on table on its own etc)

Luckily, I've got CCTV trained on the car so I can look back at the recording and find when it was done to prove to the OH it's her wink

This time she was actually in the back of the car getting a bag out, so I presume she had the keys in her hand and pressed it by mistake, but then she locked the car and came into the house without even realising the boot was wide open! All caught on camera biggrin

I still got shouted at, apparently for 'preaching' to her that she should take more care with the keyfob rolleyes

Must admit though, I do often accidentally press the rear glass release on our other 3-series touring, so I'm not completely innocent but at least that doesn't open up all the way.

So there's no custom keyfob programming tool available?

I don't carry the keys in the house so it couldn't happen accidently, I also check the car visually through the barn window before bed.

When our dryer is on, the garage blipper is hard to use.

I was blipping the garage loads the other day for it to open before I put the car in, and upon getting in the car a warning was on the big screen in a warning circle with a line through talking about something remote.

So there is the mobile app thingy that can open the car too.

I do wonder how much these remotes can do.

I'm sure it's all digital and checked but interference and stuff.

No idea what I'm saying but my F30 does all kinds of odd stuff and I often just wish there was a big 'off' button for it all, and a key hole/key and 'old style' mode.

Does the car have gesture boot opening by any chance?

My 5 had it and at one end you could stand there waving your foot about under it to no effect and at the other it would open if you just walked by it.

I got out of it once and locked it at the driver’s door, walked along the side and across the back and the boot opened.

Yes, E class estate. three times...irked

If I put the key in one of those credit card wallets, built to protect credit cards from being read by bad people using those tap and pay things, the key doesn't open anything.

Deep joy...smile

When I got my 6 series two years ago I had been driving a company car immediately before that, and the lock/unlock button positions were the reverse of my new car key. Twice in the first week I accidentally left the car unlocked (parked in a reasonably busy london street) overnight only to have that dreadful feeling the next day as I approached it and noticed the door wasn't properly closed. Very luckily I never leave valuables in the car; the first time an old ipod that didn't work/hold charge was nicked from the glovebox (so no great loss); second time someone nicked the ashtray with about £2 of smash in it. Touch wood it's never happened since. Not my proudest moments.

I have brushed past the door handle on my 3 series (which has comfort access) with my keys in my pocket a couple of times and the car has unlocked itself, This has also happened a few times when washing the car.,Only once has this resulted in the car being unlocked overnight, when some toe rag got in and trashed the lock on the glovebox and centre console lid to make away with some loose change and a pair of prescription sunglasses.

Lesson learned..

I always carry a spare, so many times as I've got into my Z4 I've opened the boot. Iirc via the Carly app I can change it through single/long/double press.

That being said, since I had it programmed to work the roof from the remote, the boot won't open from it. No idea why.

I guess with keyless access it shouldn't be a problem, but being able to separately open the boot has always seemed bonkers to me due to the risk of putting keys down in the boot then closing it again.

Never yet done this, but I do live in fear of it. Fortunately I have the older smaller octagonal keys from around the turn of the millennial and they require a good sustained push to do much at all!

Colleague of mine had a golf that dropped it windows occasionally and randomly, nothing to do with the key fog. He had a fair few morning that window of piss wet or snow covered seats.

I've done this twice, once with a neighbour helpfully coming round to tell me the boot was wide open and it was starting to rain.

I have since purchased one of those key covers from eBay which I personally dislike, but I haven't accidentally opened the boot since!

I'm another one who has found the boot open when returning to my car which is a F30. One of those occasions was in the busy car park of a city hospital, but nothing was taken. I would like to have the function programmed out of the key fob but from some of the posts above it seems this is not possible.

I am sure for a small fee your BMW dealer can disable the button.

That is nothing, my other half leaves the car unlocked many times, sometimes she gets out of the car and leaves the door wide open. It’s just bizarre!! The worrying part is that she drives, probably not paying much attention but what can one do... I advised many times that ficar gets stolen insurance company may not pay if car not locked or doors wide open... she doesn’t seem to care and I stopped saying it. No point. If it ever gets stolen and insurance policy void well my “I told you so face” will be seen. Honestly cannot understand the mentality...
