Nobody knows for sure why a 99 ice cream is called so.
i always thought it was, at least when i was growing up, because they was 99p?

they arent this cost anymore though frown
Thought it was something to do with the Italian king in days gone by. He had an elite guard of 99 soldiers. So at the time, anything product that was elite and special was called a 99 version.

When Italian immigrants into the UK started making ice cream, the special with the flake was called a 99, the elite product. Also, I think these guards had a brown uniform, so the flake looked like an elite soldier, but that last bit may be an embellishment. Maybe the whole story is a lie!
Yes, but no-one knows for sure, that's a fact.

Many years ago a wicked girlfriend of a friend asked an ice cream man for a 69 with juice, poor chap didn't know where to put himself hehe

I think a lot of the facts presented in this thread fall well short of astonishing, so the fact presented here fits in quite well.
A 26ft long poo certainty fits the bill quite well, single coil too.

Nah, they were called that in the days of £sd.
Maybe they cost 8/3d ? No, I know they didn't.

An article in the Gardian states;

Apparently it is so called because the majority of ice cream merchants in the fifties were Italian. The King of Italy had an elite bodyguard consisting of 99 men. So anything elite was called 99s by Italians. So they called the elite ice cream a 99. Ray Mitcham, Southport, UK. From the Cadbury website:

ETA: Just seen the above mentioned - damned and blast!

Jefferson Aircraft.
Close, but no cigar for you.
Jefferson Helicopter? This could go on a bit, so, Jefferson Airplane, later Jefferson Starship. With Grace Slick lead singer' who is, would you believe it, fast approching 80.

Surrealistic Pillow, After Bathting at Baxters and Red Octopus are some albums and White Rabbit, Somebody to Love and We Built This City some hit singles.

Formed in San Francisco, mid sixties just prior to the psychedelic genre of the West Coast.
They took a long time to really take off because of the conveyer belt. wink

Also for a brief period they were named Jefferson Inconsequential Ballistic Missile.

Perhaps not too astonishing but certainly related was that Jefferson Airplane formed a spin off band called Hot Tuna while Grace Slick was incapacitated with throat surgery.

I heard them perform at the Bath Festival in 1970, and it was one of the musical events of my lifetime.

Human intestines are on average 25 feet long in total, so that's sum pretty tight packing. Wish my suitcase packing was as effective every time I go on holiday.

Was in NY recently and went to see Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden as he has a residency and plays once a month there. "Handy little number for him" I whispered to Wifey mid-show, "He lives outside New York and comes in once a month, maybe has a few beers in the limo on the way, does a couple of hours on piano, and probably takes home $250k every time for it!"

Nope ..................... $2m a show. I was genuinely surprised he was making that much for a residency in NY.

How come light keeps on going indefinitely without fizzling out to nothing - I mean sound doesn't just keep going, if you move away from a source of noise, eventually you will no longer hear it.
Light travels in a vacuum.

Sound needs a medium to travel through. By default, the medium will have some damping, which will slowly absorb the energy in the sound wave.
