Married but separate beds/rooms?
Discussion
Sometimes we do, sometimes we don't. It will be driven by a need not to disturb the other for whatever reason : early start; coming in much later; wriggling about; snoring; you name it. There is no correlation, in our case, between who sleeps where & a bit of the other......... there's none in either case!!!!
Most of my 20 years married life I would have preferred to sleep alone. Wifey is one of those clingy types who always like to have contact in bed, whereas I simply cannot sleep if there is the slightest physical contact. It is like some Chinese torture waiting for them to move a bit.
As of a year ago I am now alone, my own bed, it is bliss. Wife is 8000 miles away, which is also grand.

Generally share the same bed, but I toss and turn a lot at night and Mrs Mex gets frustrated and huffs and puffs at me, so I will retreat to the guest room if I can't nod off.
Must admit, if anything, I find the bed in the guest room more bloody comfortable than the marital bed, despite it being a pretty cheap and nasty thing, whereas the marital bed and mattress cost a bloody fortune!

Is there another thread, married but separate continents? As of a year ago I am now alone, my own bed, it is bliss. Wife is 8000 miles away, which is also grand.

Guy I worked with in his late 50's has has a separate bedroom to his wife for the last 20 years (they're been married 30+) as he works away Monday to Friday and she didn't sleep as well having to share the bed on weekends.
Sounds like they live separate lives given that synopsis.PositronicRay said:

So what happens to your sex life? Is she supposed to lie there alone night after night until you honour her with your presence for 10 mins of thrusting on top of her before making off to your mancave, or do you just give up on it?
To me it sounds more like living with a mate or a lodger. I understand the compromises, but aren't those just the things that you make to be together?
Get a bigger bed maybe?

I sleep with the wife, but our 2yo occupies the middle, so if/when I wake for the toilet, I'll go to our spare bedroom.
Problem is I work away for long periods, so the wife ends up with the kids in bed, though we've been putting our second in her cot religiously.
I don't think it will be too bad once we get the little one off to her own bed, she seems to take up quite a bit of room for someone so small.

If I was in the bed / mattress manufacturing game I’d get together with the others and attempt to make this the norm. Less stuff to manufacture/ transport etc. Would save a fortune
And you'd lose my business to people who made proper double/king mattresses. I HATE that setup.TooMany2cvs said:

In Nordic countries like Finland and Iceland I've noticed that quite a few hotels and apartments have either a double bed with 2 single covers or 2 single beds pushed together.
I thought this was done simply so that rooms could be set up as doubles or twins?Hotels everywhere do it. You need a double room? Push 'em together. You need a twin room? Push 'em apart.

I went to a new mates house in cardiff years ago. Huge million pound +. Absolutely stunning inside. He showed me around and he showed me his mums bedroom. Was palace like white carpet expensive everything and not a thing out of place. Across the hallways his dads room, a tiny box room which was like a rundown 60s bedsit, brown everything. Jusy brown bed and dark brown wardrobe. You wouldn't believe it was in the same house.
First time ive met a couple that didn't stay in the same bed.
That describes my parents set up.First time ive met a couple that didn't stay in the same bed.
Mum has the large main suite with en suite, dressing area etc. My Dad, for as long as I can recall (30+ years) has had the box room with a single bed and a small wardrobe in it. Still, he seems happy enough although I will never understand it.
