I have sensitive hearing - anything wakes me up. Sharing a bed sucks. I always start the night in the marital bed, but often will grab my pillows and migrate to the spare room in the middle of the night, especially if Mrs Puggit is snoring.
Is she a big un?

What comes across in this thread is the problem with female snoring. Is it cause they're hitting the bottle?
With my OH it appears to make no difference. It's just awful.
If Mrs PR has been at the sauce it can get pretty fruity, and no waking her up, my only strategy is to drop off before her. Quite tricky.
Otherwise it's okay.

I had some friends staying over, his OH was really pushing them home (heard from the landing)

We do it at the moment but only because our toddler isnt the greatest during the night.
I'm a heavy snorer but doesnt really bother her. However last week she jumped in beside me & i could have volleyed her back out in second.
I think we'll need to maybe look at those zip mattresses if i'm going to let her in

Mum & Dad slept in seperate rooms when we all moved out. Seems quite a common thing

Divorce carries less stigma these days.

In Nordic countries like Finland and Iceland I've noticed that quite a few hotels and apartments have either a double bed with 2 single covers or 2 single beds pushed together.
I thought this was done simply so that rooms could be set up as doubles or twins?
That's exactly what it's for...

Hotels everywhere do it. You need a double room? Push 'em together. You need a twin room? Push 'em apart.
It may be why they do it in hotels, but it's very commonplace in Europe. I hated it at first but now I love it!
The 2 quilts on the bed thing is a great idea, there’s always one partner that hogs the quilt so one each would be a great idea

Couldn't do separate beds myself. I'm a neat sleeper but the Mrs is terrible, rolls over nicks all the duvet, rucks up all the sheets. But I love a cuddle in the middle of the night.

Wife and I sleep in separate beds, a bit like Benmac earlier in the thread I tend to flail around a lot and lash out in my sleep. I used to snore quite badly too but I've lost a fair bit of weight now and that seems to have helped. When we did sleep in the same bed at the start of our relationship I was always asking where my wife got the bruises on her legs from, the response was always "You! You were kicking me in your sleep last night and not gently either", add to that a wife thats a light sleeper and I moved into the spare room.

Now I can have a room that's the temperature I like, have a nice firm mattress so my back doesn't hurt (Mrs gaz likes a soft mattress), don't have to fight over covers and I can have a duvet with a tog rating that isn't approaching the millions. The feedback from the wife was basically the same. I was a bit anxious about moving into a separate room at first, it felt a bit like I was being banished but you know what I sleep so much better now and I really don't care about telling people any more. Plus it's not like if you come to this arrangement you can never ever sleep in the same bed together.

The sex life bit is really easy, I just walk into my wifes bedroom or vice versa.....

They did have seperate houses at one point, roughly 500 yards away.
Crazy.

For those complaining about snoring I find ear plugs work wonders plus the odd jab to the ribs.

I can recommend a super king bed. Lots of space to not disturb each other, except the dog now thinks there's enough space for him as well.
yes Plenty of space, but easy access for cuddles and more.

That would be the obviously reason, but far too many rooms were intentionally designed so that the beds are seen as one and not separable (despite space) and it doesn't explain why a lot of the doubles come with 2 single covers.

I honestly believe they have different attitudes towards sleeping.

You're obviously not subjected to "real" snoring - the earplugs help, but not much, and I end up just poking her all night.

First thing I do is roll her onto her side - it's far, far worse if she's on her back,

Wouldn't think of moving out of our room. When you have two weans, night time and in bed is probably the only peace and time we have to have a cuddle+.
Also we live in a country area where people tend to just knock and come in so running for the door and getting dressed at the same time is not easy so feel more private upstairs for anything in depth.

We have 2 separate mattresses on a double bed that is an electric recliner, so OH can sleep upright, although she usually starts the night taking half of my side too!
We could do with seperate duvets though, she hogs it all
