Can you really not think of anything more useful than seeing who can (for instance) run around a track the fastest?
I can think of many more things that are more useful than running around a track. But then we'd just make that into a competition too. Blown2CV said:

there is also an irony that most of your comments don't move the discussion on at all, and are just "takes one to know one" nursery school bullst, when you pride yourself in devoting time to only the most valuable of activities.
I really don't need somebody who like you who liberally sprinkles his posts with weird mixtures of straw man and ad absurdum arguments to attempt to define what is and what isn't ironic. I know you won't mind me saying that I think you would be well advised to calm down a bit, and I'm thinking you should use up some of that nervous energy with some sport.singlecoil said:

And, with epic comedy timing, the world of football comes back to remind us why it's a place for the dregs of society.

The old favourites of "not all clubs have thugs" and "it's only a minority of bad apples" absolutely crease me. It's a low-brow sport, for low-brow fans - violence, casual racism and verbal abuse are just par for the course.

Utter nonsense. I know a large number of law firm partners who are die hard football fans, season ticket holders etc. Hardly low-brow individuals. I've seen lots of behaviour from them that I'd classify as low-brow. Remember, attitudes don't always correlate with income.
