My (unpopular) opinion is that people who get annoyed about trivial things like this should find other things in their lives to focus their energies on.
What a ridiculous thing to say. Personally, I have many more important things to focus my energies on. But, YMMV.

Honestly. Who could possibly find the time and energy to be so annoyed by the way that a small group of people order their coffee?

It's worse than that.Personally, I have many more important things to focus my energies on. But, YMMV.
English is a truly mongrel language. Its formed from proto-French and proto-German with a good mix of Greek and Latin thrown in... And since then we've borrowed words from every other language in use. Much of our legal system is French, we use the Germanic word for the animal we get steak from whilst using the french word for the food.
Defending the purity of the English language is like defending the virtue of the town bike.
The irony is, the power of English is in it's flexibility. If it were as rigid and controlled as the pedants want, there'd be more Thai speakers in the world.

I'm simply shocked at how people expend their energies, that's all...

Fair enough.

fking hell, I hate that! It makes my st itch. How many times have you seen people use "stock" instead of "standard", or use the stupid term "swap out/in"? amongst many more.

fking hell, I hate that! It makes my st itch. I feel that when I go to a restaurant, ultimately I want to wind up ‘getting’ what I’ve asked for, i.e., when it arrives, I’ve “got” it, so in saying “can I get?” I’m stating what it is I want to be “getting.”
A few years ago, in a very upmarket restaurant in Edinburgh, I asked the maître d’ if he thought “can I get” was an impolite way for a diner to order, as I’d seen a discussion on another Forum about the subject.
He said that as far as he was concerned, the customer was always right, so “may I have”, “I’d like”, or “can I get”, were all completely acceptable to him, BUT if the diner omitted the word ‘please”, then THAT was rude,
