Maldives and tipping
Discussion
So we're going to the Maldives this week for a week on a little island with 30 huts on there, and that's it. There are no shops/restaurants or anything esle.
It's all inclusive, so there is no need for money at all............but the question is tipping...........
It'd be the only need for actual money for the entire week.
What currency do the natives like?
What is considered a good tip?
I was thinking taking 200USD (As extras in our resort are listed in dollar), and tipping 2-3usd a time...........?
Thanks in advance.

We went a few years ago..
Did not tip at first, the plan was to give a large tip at the end of the trip... Bad idea.
People tipped bar staff and waiters a small amount daily, they had exceptional service, we had to wait around.
One we started to tip more service went from having to sign foe every drink at the bar, to the bar staff running a tab we need to sign in the morning...
Our waiter went from being slow to get us drinks during our meal to having them waiting for us.
Tip daily, but small amount.

200USD is probably enough for the week. A few dollars here and there at the bar and restaurant helps things go swimmingly. Don’t forget the room guys and gardeners, they wil, be on the lowest wages but contribute greatly to the overall experience.
Calling the staff the ‘natives’ isn’t very nice.

Interesting. We are going to Kuredu resort in the Maldives next month so I would be interested if you have any tips when you get back!
Kuredu, we tend to use the main pool bar during the day when we go, normally give them 20USD on arrival, 20 after the 1st week if you're still happy with them, and 20 at the end, seems to work, you'll also be allocated a waiter in the AI restaurant, 20 at the start 20 at the end, have a great time.Gassing Station | Holidays & Travel | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
