Just looking at a list of UK sportives on here http://www.sportive.com/ and wondered what events we were all looking to take part in this year? I was tempted with the Dirty Reiver 130 in Kielder but its too close to the birth of my new baby and I think it'd be a risk booking it in. Any recommendations for top drawer well organised events, north of Manchester?

Anyone done Great Dunn Fell before? That's the one I'm tempted by. Late July I think

Never done the sportive but have done that climb a few times. Best in the UK in my opinion.

Got in the Dartmoor classic this year, so pleased with that
Looks like I'll also be able to do the smuggler too, so plenty of climbing lined up.

I'd love to do it but that's a savage climb compared to what I'm used to - must be quite a challenge doing that at the end of along ride!

Plenty of time to train! Last time I did it was after 100 miles, but I did have compact gears (34-28) so was manageable.

Well I've put it on the calendar and will have a think about it - I'm doing LEJOG in September so good prep for that I guess

Is LEJOG with a organised group? Sounds awesome. How many days are you doing it over?

9 days. Really looking forward to it. Most of my miles so far this year have been indoors due to the weather!

Ace, I saw that and would love to have a crack at it one day. Not cheap though and I'd never get the sponsorship.

Please provide a diary if you can when you do it. I'm sure plenty of here would be interested.

My better half bought me for Christmas entry into these 3 sportives. Not sure if it because she knows how much I love cycling or wants the life insurance...

I ride normally in and around Cheshire/Peak District so really looking forward to the Yorkshire one!

I've got Struggle Dales at the end of May: https://ridethestruggle.com/products/struggle-dale...

Plus a couple of easier 60 / 80 milers local to me beforehand by way of training for the above, and a flat 100 in June.

I see lots of negative stuff about sportives nowadays, but having something to train for gives me the kick I need to get on the turbo on a dark, early winter morning!

Ronde Van Calderdale is the only one I do every year, and every year it's bloody horrible.

I'm not much of a writer but I'll look into doing a write up for sure - perhaps not daily but I'll try to pull something together. I'm sure I'll get lots of pictures

Just got to get all the training done first. Not gone past 100 miles since summer 2015 :|. Lincoln GP Sportive is likely to be my first this year!

Have a look at http://www.great-bear-tours.co.uk/.

Carl is a great guy. I've been with him on a LEJoG and to the French Alps and Swiss Dolomites.

booked in for the New Forest 100 in September with my dad (who is going to be 63 smile ) first century for both of us so found a nice flat one!

Probably do a couple more through the summer in Kent, going to do the Tour De Sandwich 100k in June as it starts 2 mins from my office, and maybe the one that goes round the Romney Marsh.

As a chubby complete newbie, I'm doing the Starley sportive in Coventry this weekend, just the 30 mile one as a taster

My first this year will be the rawlinson bracket, 60 miles, 4000 ft climbing on the 25th Feb. I expect I'll do the Wiggle Tempest in July.
