A quick cap doff to Dom and team at Powers Performance

Just had a new 4.3 rebuild dyno'd at 407bhp and 374lb/ft at the wheels

which using the 15% rule works out at 468bhp and 430lb/ft at the flywheel

Cats in place, nothing else fancy on the car but with latest MBE ECU

Happy days

You have to love Dom's dyno....

If I took my Landy there I bet I'd have the UK's most powerful Defender!

Genuine question.
If you suppose to run these engines in upto 2-3krpm for the first few thousand miles or so, why is it OK to be redlined on the RR ?

Mine had a temp mapping( another 4.5 cars chip in the ECU) whilst running in for 1000 miles , then it was bespoke mapped after running in. So the Dyno figures were after running in . It was Dyno'ed again when I got the Anti knock sensor and new ECU fitted.

I just picked up my 4.3 yesterday. It feels really lumpy at low revs but feels really sweet between 2-3K, possibly fuel mapping issue? Was this the same for you? I’ve only put 125 Miles on it since the rebuild.

The proof is always at comparison days at other rolling roads.
468bhp and 430lb/ft at the flywheel for a 4.3 speed 6 has to be the highest figure yet claimed?

Love the numberplate though biggrin

It will all be sorted after the running in and after the remap

Until the remap, your engine won't know it's a 4.3 and is doing its best as its former self!

Bearing in mind a standard 4L is around 350/360hp are we really expected to believe a 100+hp gain from 300cc and a new management???
I'm not knocking the engines at all. They're long term proven to be reliable and powerful in both 4.3 and 4.5 guise with the all important warranty but the fantasy figures that keep being bandied about are unnecessary and frankly a joke. I can only assume it's an attempt at one upmanship given the performance of the FFF engines....

It is a magical dyno that’s for sure. Legend has it someone put an old mountain bike on the rollers after two cans of blue label monster and got 100hp. hehe

Bloody hell I thought that was the accepted figure? In that case Dom must be putting even more magical fairy dust in his engines!!

It’s well known that the “at the wheels” figures on Powers dyno are normally within a few digits of Surrey rolling road at the fly, and Jools’s dyno at the fly.
407hp and 374 ftlb is bang on for a 4.3 fly figures so you’re all good!

Thats a shame Andy i only have a 2 wheel drive dyno, anyway with regards to our dyno figures you either believe it or you dont ,all the big boys have come and gone but Powers still here with no bullst attached, we entered Gt Cup and beat all the factory teams with my 4.5 out of my sagaris i rest my case smokin

I'd would say that the numbers quoted are a fair assumption and should easily be achievable now-a-days.
Below is a graph of my cars bhp & lb/ft. which is also a 4.3.
The engine was built 8-9 years ago now and runs on a standard Sagaris MBE ECU

So not with standing a further 8 years of development of the speed 6 engine.

I'm not knockin your work or your engines Dom. I've driven a 4.5 SS and it's a very impressive package. There is no doubt you have these engines sewn up and I'd be foolish to try and argue that. What I don't believe (and I speak for many on PH) are the actual numbers quoted. As said above your wheel figures are the same as most others flywheel figures so something is very wrong somewhere. I appreciate numbers are all relative and to an extent it's weather dependant etc etc but I do not believe for one second you are gaining over 100hp without head or cam, intake, exhaust mods. That's over 30% gain and while ecus have come on in leaps and bounds, they can't work miracles. I've seen standard 4L engines gain ~30hp with an ecu swap (modern mbe, syvecs etc) which is a much more realistic figure. That means (assuming no other tuning work) 300cc is giving an extra 70hp+!!
The full race 4.5+L engines are only nudging 500hp and that's with many other modifications.

I'm hoping I'm wrong because if I am I'll drop the front prop shaft on my defender, drive to yours with 111 flywheel hp and leave with 111hp at the wheels. Now THAT would be impressive!!

I'm quite happy with my engine and it drives very well and more than fast enough for me . Figures are for Pub talk . But for information .....
My 4.5SS before anti knock ECU compared against Std 4 Litre

and after anti knock ECU

I thought TVR quoted 350 from a 3.6L not the 4.0L in a Tamora
