Hello all.

I know the stock answer in these scenarios is "just buy the one you want". However, in this scenario the choice is between almost identical watches.

So with a so-small-it-makes-no-difference price difference would you go for a new(ish) Moonwatch with the big box and all that or the 30th Anniversary one?

I know Omega love a limited edition which arguably detracts from the special-ness of the ones produced in high numbers but for the same(ish) price and the fact that the only difference is the case back and box would you go for a) older limited edition and the risks that brings or b) newer watch, extra straps, etc.

I like the idea of the older one but would the newer be the safer bet?

Thanks all.

The 30th already has and will continue to appreciate in value. The standard year in year out model, new or nearly new, will depreciate in value then level off, and will probably not start to appreciate if at all, it may take decades to get back to today's start point (which the 30th is already moving on from).

The 30th isn't much of a special though, compared to say the 35th, but a special is still a special.

Thank you for the reply. Agree that as far as specials go it is at the lower end of the scale but I also like the fact that it remains quite understated. I also think I prefer the clasp which has no buttons to release it. Appreciate this certainly makes it inferior but I do like the cleaner look.

Is there any concern around buying a 20 year old watch? Particularly one that is manual wind? Can it be over-wound as such and damaged?

Just to update this and ask for further help I am going ahead with a 2018 example. The 30th sold whilst I was deciding and on balance I like the idea of a never worn example with the additional straps and all stickers still on.

Question is I need to send my Tudor off to WF as I am part-exchanging. RM do special delivery with £2,500 compensation (read insurance?!). The trade in value is greater than this but there doesn’t seem to be another option. Is this an ok risk? There must be alternatives as people send watches of far greater value than mine.

Guidance welcome smile

I sent my Tudor off to Hackett Watches Special Delivery recently & had no problems.

Service was impeccable from Dom as well. I got a good price & instant payment beer

Dave did yours have a value greater than £2,500? We’re you comfortable with the £2,500 limit?
