Maybe a piece on Ernst Röhm?
We may even get another tickle on the seismograph as the teacher implodes.

Put on a dress, make-up, grow a beard and stuff two chickens in a bra, then go visit the teacher.

Record on your phone, please !

Why not go for someone like Turing? Utterly brilliant mind, very instrumental in winning WW2. He was only recently pardoned - for being gay when it was still completely illegal.

Or it could be that the teacher/school is trying to fulfil the requirements imposed on them by the government?

Now I’m not saying that this question is necessarily correct. It does depend on the context of the teaching prior to this. However as primary schools are required to teach about relationships, it could be that the teacher is trying to break down the idea that homosexuality/homosexual relationships or transgender issues are wrong but encouraging students to research LGBT individuals in order to establish that it is also possible for them to be inspirational too. It might be similar to, for instance, teaching students about Emeline Pankhurst and the Suffragette movement and setting them the homework to research inspirational women today, whose successes could be attributed to Pankhurst’s work. Would that too be inappropriate?
I think Ofsted also question schools on all this, and marks them down if they don't cover all the leftie stuff.

That made me laugh far more than it should have. laugh
I'd be sending a thanks but no thanks back to the teacher myself. Kids of that age find people inspirational for all sorts of reasons, their sexuality is very unlikely to be one of them. As has been said, roll on to age 15-16 then LGBT folk in the public eye probably are inspirational to quite a few youngsters. At that age I think an element of education around the area is probably a good thing. Without getting all NP&E, I've worked within certain communities where the attitude towards LGBT is appalling, a similar level of ignorance and hate to the old school racism that used to be endemic. If the younger generations can develop an understanding then hopefully things can improve.
The thread reminds me of this story about a recent Bake Off contestant who spoke about how he'd come second in his school's LGBT baking competition. At the time a good friend of mine who happens to be gay commented that had he been at the school he'd have simply made a sponge cake with 'I love cock' piped across the top. Maybe I'm getting old, but I cannot fathom why on earth a school needs an lgbt baking competition.

I don't have kids but my girlfriend has a couple of nieces around that age. I don't think they have a clue what LGBT means, I don't think I did at that age either.
At age 10 I remember that everyone generally got on. It wasn’t until the various isms were force fed at secondary school that groups segregated themselves from others who were‘different’.

Watching my kids go through school I'd have to say it's still the case. I love seeing how inclusive my junior school kids and their friends are, the secondary school kids however, if you don't confirm to a certain look or have certain interests etc you become an outcast.

Why a LGBT person? Why not any person? I'd let her do it but ignore the LGBT bit and send it with a note, "We don't discriminate in our house - everyone is equal.'

This kind of sh** is why I don't have kids.

Sorry, but that's just wrong to expect a 10 year old child to answer that question.

Got to love the logic of the left. "Look, kids - these people are different. You might not have noticed, but we're making sure you now think of this set of people as not normal. Now treat them the same, or you are x-phobic or y-ist."

I’ve obviously been living under a rock but just had to google “LGBT”.

In the absence of an explanation for the abbreviation, the niece could use her imagination.

LGBT = Lovely, Great, Brilliant & Tremendous.

That widens the options a bit......
