I am always seeing cars outside our local shops with the engine running, keys in the ignition, while the driver is inside buying fags / paper / pasties. I'm always tempted to move them up the road a bit laugh
Let us know how you get on, take someone to video it and hold it properly in landscape mode and show us the results!

Only if it's actually stolen though.

Sept 1st 2006 was the last time my house was locked , moving in day . Maybe having a GS gives peace of mind but break ins just don't happen around our way .

I only lock the door when I'm out, day or night if I'm in the door is open. Have forgotten to lock the front door which I don't use much for weeks on end.

I leave my house unlocked most of the time front and rear French doors ... the dog is a reasonably good deterrent

Cars as well ... the Megane currently has its roof down and the keys on the drivers seat in the garage. Left my Q7 at the train station recently as well, unlocked for like 10days lol

I found it an odd habit when I moved down here. I never locked my door at home, apart from at night (when we thought about it). In Essex everyone - even during the day when they're home! - locks their doors like some sort of paranoid fool.

There wouldn't be any need to lock where I'm at, but you may as well anyway. Even if you're a lovely country dweller it only takes one asshole townie on tour to destroy your idyll.

We don't lock the front or backdoor during the day, the side door and garage door are left locked. However during the day thanks to the security cameras I'd get an alert as you were coming down the drive so I'd know you were there before you got to the door.

Always locked front and back and garden gate locked too.

In the warm summer months there are always burglaries in our local area via insecure rear doors, sometimes front doors too.

Their MO seems to be walk the streets trying doors at 4am. They always seem to get lucky. Had 3 cars stolen off our small estate between June and September last year.

In bad weather I occasionally leave an old 4x4 at the end of our (1.2km) drive with the keys in to allow car driving visitors to reach us (includes the postie in really bad conditions).
It has been known to disappear for a few hours at a time as neighbours use it to get into town for emergency supplies. I don't mind, they'd help us out too. It sometimes even comes back with a wee bottle of something on the seat to say thanks.

I know this is downright crazy, but I actually know a elderly lady who does not lock her back door as she says in her village there are no burglaries, that she has no valuables at home ,she might get locked out from the front door or misplace her keys so need to come inside
Yup. Some of my relatives in suburban Los Angeles don't lock their back door or their garage. The door from the garage to the house is locked, but there is all manner of stuff in the garage. Never had a problem.

^ I wouldn't do that in the UK though. Everything not chained down and some things that are, get stolen.

When I was 18 I had some friend of a friend who wouldn’t wear his seatbelt incase he had an accident and got trapped in the car

No amount of explaining that without a seatbelt you could die in a smallish bump would make him put it on

I remember another friend of the same friend driving round with a head shaped smash in his front screen from slamming on the brakes avoiding some wild life!

Wasn’t sure if I had locked it or not and was rushing to get a train - happens regularly though just not something I tend to think about.

Our front door has been left wide open, not unlocked, actually open, it was like it for 3 hours on a dark weekday night, we were 40 minutes away.

I live in a terrace house stepping straight onto the path, no front garden, not even a step!

Nothing was missing, I searched the house and loft thoroughly before feeling safe!

Goes back to the 1950’s ordinary people didn’t bother to lock thier doors, mainly for two reasons.
The locks were crap and wouldn’t keep anybody out for more than ten seconds.
Most everyday folk had SFA to steal.

I expect most thieves would risk bigger more glamorous properties for richer pickings v risk/ reward.

I rented a 1 million pound house off Air BnB deep in middle of nowhere, owner lived hours away, we were given address and were told it would be open

Sure enough it was, when we left, we just shut the door, it was never locked

I did panic after being in an hour that I had gone into the right house!!

I bet in lots of areas crime isn't more than 20 years ago, just everyone believes the Daily Mail headlines
