Ours is a thou= your arse, half a thou= my arse and nought= the apprentice!!!!
In the engineering and design side of oil and gas it was four fifths of five eighths of fk all. And if it was exact it was SBO - spot bk on.
Half a gnat's cock was a fairly close tolerance, but much closer tolerances were expected on the crankshaft web deflection readings of our big diesel engines when coupling the intermediate pedestal bearing between the flywheel and dynamometer prior to engine testing.
Shimming of the crankcase bedplate was followed by fine adjustment ( two blokes wielding a 4" diameter 4 ft long brass "tup" to clobber the peddy bearing into perfect alignment. ) cool

Of course, on the railways, a tolerance of 500 yards is not unexpected wink

It wad mentioned on national radio travel news that a "test train" had caused a minor glitch out of and into Paddington.

Mrs Bobbers just asked me what I want for Christmas, apparently I won't be getting a puppy, a Jaguar F-type, a Breitling, Claudia Winkleman, a bunny, a castle in Scotland or tickets to the six nations!!!!!! grumpy

You may recall that a couple of years and several volumes of TT ago, I bought a set of Jaguar Classic cufflinks in the shape of C Type spinners. I was slightly amused and puzzled to note thay they came with a free Jaguar Heritage teddy, who I named Lofty and who has since sat on the edge of my desk shelf.

Well, you'll be sad to know that the other day I said goodbye to Lofty, as he began a new life with my cousin's 1 year old daughter.
Here he is pictured ready to depart, with the fellow room clearout collateral of a copy of How Stuff Works - destined for said cousin's 2 and a half year old son.

Bye lofty!

Dear CC, It's a shame you never took the time to read the book, for you would have discovered the "Way Things Work".

It was more of a username interpretation by me that led to the conclusion he has a Harley.

You could change your username to StreetBobbers if you like.

My Percy has never had a malevolent streak.
He does occasionally make small children cry, but only by accident. He doesn't really mean to be so loud! ears
