Afternoon chaps.
Does anyone know if the standard red Monaro VXR paint is actually the same red as the rest of the VXR range - Astra/Vectra etc...?
Looking to buy some touch up paint.
Thanks.

I very much doubt it, but the paint code should be stamped on to ID plate under the bonnet. I managed to get a good match made up from Halfords a few years ago, I could believe it !!!!!

I got my Monaro red paint from Halfords as well sadly Halfords no longer do paint and my Monaro has moved on but I do remember the paint code was listed under Opel for some reason so maybe worth mentioning that.

Not really relevant but my Camaro Summit White paint is also listed as Glacier White for Saab same code and a lot cheaper.

I used Vauxhall sapphire Black on mine to touch up a few chips, can't tell the difference even where i used a lot of it on the front bumper and before wet sanding and machine polishing it. It all blended in nicely. Different colours may be different however

That seems to be the case!, I checked my old Holden Monaro history book and found that the other red available on the Monaro was called Flame red, that colour was also called Jaffa !!!!
So it appears that there can be two names for the same colour.
Why make things easy?

Having parked my red VXR8 (E1) next to a red Monaro VXR in bright sunlight on more than one occasion, one car "sting red", the other car "red hot", I can confirm that the two cars were absolutely NOT the same shade of red.... There isn't a whole lot of difference between them, but they are not the same colour.

If I wanted to source the correct paint for a VXR8, I would call Walkinshaw Performance UK and ask them to ask their contacts at HSV in Australia to source the correct paint code.

With regards to the OP's original question the answer is no, the Opel/Vauxhall paint codes/names are not the same as used by HSV.

Going through the ChipEx website is usually a good way of getting paint codes for cars if you really really don't know what it is. Can be done by numberplate search or good old fashioned make and model, and especially with our cars, wasn't like there was a thousand paint options (though a shame some of the ones offered in Aus never made it over here).

Look at the plate on the right of the slam panel

I used these guys for mine. They do mail order and for me created a perfect match. I also bought grey primer and Laquer

Sting Red and Red Hot are definitely the same colour.

Holdens are Red Hot, HSVs painted the same colour in the same paintshop were Sting Red. There is no way the plant could have managed 2 reds.

No idea why HSV chose to refer to it as Sting Red - maybe they thought is sounded special.
