have you seen the proposed law changes...…….
I was aware you can't buy a full sized sword with a curved blade, could you tell me what the new proposal is please? I wouldn't be looking for something razor sharp. A dull blade, maybe even one with a few chips and wear marks would be good as long as it's well made.
Don't know, no one knows just how far they might take it until next year I guess.

Every time I have met someone who owned a sword, they have fallen into one of these two categories:

The first group of people tend to buy antique military items, suits of armour, cavalry items, those kind of things, and display them in their hallways and drawing rooms. All the things they own are real and have historic value.

The second group, well... there's no easy way to say this. They are weird.

Usually live in a small and slightly grubby terraced house or council house, and have these kind of things on shelves or in display cabinets in their living room:

Just remember, if you do buy a replica/fantasy sword, you need to buy a T shirt like this:

I agree it would be fantastic to keep an antique medieval sword, but these things are best looked after by museums where everyone can enjoy them. Antique 19th century cavalry sword? Meh... easily bought, but not an historical period I have any interest in.

Ultimately my main reason for getting one is because I just sort of want one. I'm not going to do anything with it. I might not even display it. A bit odd maybe, but what is life without its small pleasures?

And I bet you all secretly want one too. hehe

I have been googling and the prices vary enormously. At the lower end there is a company that hand makes swords and armor in India called Deepeeka. They have a 3mm blunt edge so you can do reenactment fighting with them and they look good in a rustic sort of way, but they are almost too cheap! I would prefer a locally made weapon if I can find one at a good price.

For proper sharps you are looking at around £300 + depending on type for a decent one.

I have just joined a local Historic European Martial Arts group and swinging a longsword about is incrediably difficult to do well, especially if you have someone swinging it back. If your interested in that sort of thing see if there is a HEMA group near by, you get to hit people with blunt swords and its much more satisfying than reenactments as that's basically all hollywood (they do the same 5 moves so to the public it looks like a fight).

Only if your stairs curve downwards to the left.

I’m going to shoot from the hip.

At some point you’ll pick up this replica medieval sword and start swinging it around, imagining yourself as an ancient knight or warlock. The Queen has called for help as 6 French elite knights are attempting to dethrone her literally and sexually and her blouse has been ripped open slightly by these monsters.

The sad truth will be that you’re a 40 year old virgin who’s swinging a tacky child’s toy around in your underpants. Possibly with a pair of tits hanging over your gut and an inappropriate erection.

Try and imagine that at some point in the future you have your own children and try to imagine their shame as you have none of your own.
Lmao clap

If you're getting a sword, it has to be a world of warcraft replica one for maximum cool points.

To be fair here, I do have an ornamental sword.
Made for me by my father many years ago RIP.

Great sentimental value, and it's not swung around by me like a ninja whilst in my pants.
It's called Nothung/Notung, and as I'm an Wagner Opera enthusiast it suits me well.

Of course being able to pull it out from the ash tree at the end of Act1 of Die Walkure whilst singing the part of Siegmund would be a dream come true.
Alas the sofa cushions will have to do with Wagner blaring out on the Stereo..

It's metal and wood obviously, about 40" long.
If you can guess what metal (artifact) it's made from I will give £100 to the charity of your choice... (Genuine competition)

Opp's sorry for the thread hijack... I'll repost or delete if required..

For reasons I don't know, my mother bought me a replica Excalibur sword for my 27th birthday. I'd never once shown any interest in anything even remotely related.

She paid a sizable chunk for it too...£250!

It lives under the stairs and only comes out when i'm drunk and feeling like a Jedi. Which isn't very often. (The Jedi bit)

These guys are highly regarded, but you could also go to Windlass Steelcraft, Hanwei or Cold Steel. There are quite a few HEMA clubs out there, but they do tend to attract a type of nutter.

There's a sword and scabbard in my attic.

It's my brothers. Some sort of regimental army something or other.

Assuming it was part of a uniform, I've never really considere the legalities of having something like that lying around.
You keep a vagina in your attic? - The etymology of vagina dates back to the 1680s. From Latin, it means a sheath or scabbard in which to thrust a sword. biggrin
