Isn't Piers Corbyn actually Jeremy's brother?

Why all the Russian all over Puggit's twitter link?

Forget the easterly. Signs of a long term northerly forming. Watch this space...

What does that possibly equate to;

1947
1963
2009/10
2017/18

Just a potent blast.

There are positive signals for a 2009/2010 winter. The polar vortex is smashed to pieces. There is no sign of the jet stream establishing. Signals for high pressure in the north Atlantic.

I don't remember 09\10 being memorable but I do remember 10\11 as it was 25\12\2010
when my Cosworth transmission spectacularly failed in very snowy Devon.
I saw -17 on the way down there.

I thought I would post a few more winter photos from Colorado. These were taken on Highway 9 heading up towards Kremmling.

It will be rain and maybe a bit of sleet mixed in at best.

Mostly what I am getting from this thread at the minute is I need to move to Colorado!

Whats the hiking / running like in the hills? I was reading an Ultrarunning forum and they were talking about running trails on their own and how dangerous it was. I thought it odd, but then it was explained about cougars, mountain lions, bears etc. Dont have that problem in the UK!

I second this.

I have been watching a youtube channel of a chap who lives in Boulder, Colorado and runs and cycles a lot. It seems especially well suited to bike riding.

Some friends in the UK have a house in Steamboat Springs where they spend the winter for the skiing and some time in the summer for the cycling. Sadly, I won't be able to make it out there this winter but have been going out there to stay for the past few years (hence I know Kremmling as the transfer bus from Denver makes a stop there). Absolutely stunning, both in the winter and in the summer.

2008/09, 09/10, and 10/11 we're (from memory at least) quite snowy. Certainly in 2010/11 it was the harshest winter I can ever remember. Sheffield and the peak district was basically buried in snow for a good few weeks. A rerun of that would be interesting to say the least!

The trick here is to always run with a buddy.

Ideally one that is slower than you.

Even had a foot of snow in south Manchester, built an igloo, had an ace couple of days.

I love the early promise side of this thread each year, "Winter is Coming", then a few frosts, bit of drizzle and then, the main event, touted as Snowpocalypse/Snomageddon and then turns out to be a inch or two of slush biggrin

I think we need to think up some original and dramatic terms for a bit of snow, then see how quickly the Daily Express nicks them.

I remember at some point around 2009-10 we had really cold weather a a big dump of snow. I had an old A6 at the time and one morning the screen inside had frozen and it was showing -8. This is in MK. We had a lot of snow and I had to walk my little girl to the childminders, dragging the buggy.

A friend of mine runs on trails a lot. You don't need to get out into the 'wild' to be quite isolated, but unless they're really in the arse end of nowhere, then they're overstating the issue. He's seen a few snakes and a couple of coyotes. All of which tend to fk off smartish as they're equally unhappy to see you...

Excellent job capturing the 'blue skies, blinding sunshine, but feck it's cold' nature of Colorado biggrin

Clearly it's not an everyday occurrence, but it doesn't change the fact that wild animal attacks tend to be less serious in the Home Counties, at least. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/...

All this refers to the Thames Valley / M4 corridor / East Berkshire which usually escapes the worse of any weather.

I remember a fair few stinkingly cold winters in the late 70's and 80's when I was growing up and lots of snow. As a yoot, I remember walking on frozen lakes and other such stupidity.

Then it seemed like we went through a period of years and years where there would hardly be a frost, let alone snow. 1995 was a bit snowy though I recall.

Then 09/10 and 10/11 happened. The 09/10 "snow" event was interesting, just before Christmas if I recall. I had the (then young) kids in the car when all hell broke loose. Took me five hours to get home on a six mile journey from my Mums (Grans) where I picked the kids up from. Only lightly snowing when we left and then it hammered down. I had to get out a fair few times and clear the space below the wipers of snow it was coming down that heavily. Then it all froze and we would not have got home without kind people being out giving cars a friendly push.

After that, it has been winter tyres on the cars ever since.

10/11 was the properly cold one, don't recall much snow here though.

But 2017/2018 is really mad. We had snow in early December in 2017 and then again nearer Christmas. Then it went stinkingly cold in March, very unusual for us. Not forgetting soon after that the horrifically long hot summer. And now it seems that (according to Pug) that the same blocking pattern and warming may happen again.

Weather wise it seems anything is possible in 2018!
