A friend of mine runs on trails a lot. You don't need to get out into the 'wild' to be quite isolated, but unless they're really in the arse end of nowhere, then they're overstating the issue. He's seen a few snakes and a couple of coyotes. All of which tend to fk off smartish as they're equally unhappy to see you...
Clearly it's not an everyday occurrence, but it doesn't change the fact that wild animal attacks tend to be less serious in the Home Counties, at least. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/...
Few winters back myself and her ladyship were out on a horse trail , stumbled into a wolf pack who proceeded to slowly surround us at a distance ,only ones to fk of sharpish were ourselves .

I thought I would post a few more winter photos from Colorado. These were taken on Highway 9 heading up towards Kremmling.

Mostly what I am getting from this thread at the minute is I need to move to Colorado!

Whats the hiking / running like in the hills? I was reading an Ultrarunning forum and they were talking about running trails on their own and how dangerous it was. I thought it odd, but then it was explained about cougars, mountain lions, bears etc. Dont have that problem in the UK!
I did a long weekend skiing in a Breckenridge on the way to a business meeting in Las Vegas a few years ago.

I stayed at the Fireside Inn in Breckenrdige and had the most incredible time. The snow is like nothing we get over here in Europe and although it’s jolly cold, the air is so dry due to the elevation, you don’t really feel it.

I’d love to move there. For me, it just has everything thumbup

Hiking is really good up where I am. There is everything from easy trails that are 5 minutes from my house to more challenging stuff out in national forest / wilderness areas.

What I appreciate about here is the space and the fact I can drive a short distance and be pretty much the only person around.

Thought of this thread this morning when I got in the car at 5am for the swim run and it was 11 degrees..

I'm sure I'm normally going out to warm the car up and defrost already.

Plenty of charts pointing towards Greenland highs, northerly winds, easterly winds. Signs remain VERY positive. But they are just signs - 6 days and more away.

So a positive outlook for cold after today's warmth. But no snow forecast, at this point. Cold charts can disappear as quickly as they come - especially when it's the GFS.

May I suggest that you use winter's tyres. Your car seems to have left the road......

We actually run winter tires/tyres all year round where I am stationed as the weather can be so unpredictable.

And don't die in a horrid crash at every corner in the summer ? ??! Witchcraft that the naysayers need to hear about !
wink
He's clearly lying and we all know that cops lie wink. He would have been upside down in a hedge and on fire at the very first corner if he'd driven on winter tyres in the summer.

Corners? We don't do those over here. Just steep sweeping bends on mountain highways!

The car handles pretty well on them - even at regular triple-digit speeds.

I'm still working on that. Need to double-check with my supervisor to make sure he is ok with it. I don't think it will be an issue though.

I’d close the office now, though, Melman. Just to be on the safe side...

Next week cooler - proper cold will arrive on the continent but not really make itself felt here. That's a good building block for any subsequent cold and again, another good signal for a cold winter for us.

Many charts show mouth-watering cold developing for the following week. Plenty of caution, as not all charts are on board, and it's more than a week out.
