Despite being on gardening leave and having lots of time on my hands to work the outputs out, I can’t really get excited until another couple of weeks time. It’s still too soon for winter to show itself here in the UK.

It was 5.5c at the top of Cat and Fiddle today..!

Keeping an eye on Saturday. Atlantic front could bring some widrspread snow - turning to rain.

Still good indications of something cold starting around Xmas.

Today was a fantastic winter's day in Oxfordshireshire - Dry crisp air, dry roads and bright winter sun, lovely.

There is very strong evidence of this happening around Christmas - effects normally take 2 weeks to be felt, so in to January.

With the way the northern hemisphere is set up, it could lead to quite the spell of winter.

Saturday still showing large areas with predicted snowfall for Saturday. Cold temps, low dew points and an Atlantic front all making for a complex mix. It will then turn mild and wet from the west - so not lasting long.

Hmm, all this talk of a proper winter in January makes me nervous. I'm supposed to be out skiing then...I don't care if it happens while I am away, just so long as I get out the country!

Normally as we approach the point where the charts start pointing at weather trends, we're staring down the barrel of a 14 degree brown/green Christmas and it's time to give up.

I haven't given up hope yet...

(THIS IS NOT A FORECAST OF SNOW AT CHRISTMAS)

Met Office tweet with visuals regarding the weekend: https://twitter.com/metoffice/status/1072869477765...

The cold sits just east of the UK, finally gets a push across the country just as the low pressure to our west moves east and sends a front in. Brief heavy wet snow, then warm and wet.

Sit-rep Maidenhead.

Just got back from a bike ride. The Garmin showed a low of -1.2c. That is chiily for here in the normally sub-tropical Thames Valley.

I'm due to get the train from Peterborough to 'Landan' on Sat to visit Winter Wonderland at Hyde Park.

One minute, it's windy, then it's windy later in the day. Is it going to be stormy?
