For everyone saying the issue is due to the low cost, I have to disagree in this case. As mentioned above, I paid £9.00 to have this item delivered.

I was drop 91. If everyone else had been paying similar, that's nigh on a grand of delivery money paid for that van yesterday.

I doubt my parcel was damaged by the driver. I'm betting it was done at the warehouse before it got in the van.

My replacement is due maybe tomorrow. Typical as I'm not in for most of the day. Will see what state that arrives in.
£9 still isnt a huge amount of money though. Not when you think of how that parcel will have got from point A to point B. Dont forget that your £9 has to pay for collection and delivery to you. It will have to go through various stages before it even reaches the delivery van.
Plus it will still be delivered to your house by the guy on minimum wage or 50p per drop.

I remember getting seasonal casual work at the post office in my late teens.
They pretty much double the workforce over December and a lot of the people who apply are normally not doing much else the rest of the year round and approach the whole thing with a very laissez faire approach. Was quite shocked to see random agency staff DELIBERATELY mishandling stuff marked 'Fragile' and even cheering when they heard shattering noises.
That was exactly my experience

I just wish all the companies could set a default safe place rather than having to arrange it every time you have a delivery.
With many delivery companies’ phone apps, you can - worth downloading and checking. This is as the recipient; they log your name and address so everything they deliver will benefit from the same instructions.

Is anyone else thoroughly fed up with the text messages from Royal Mail about deliveries? I don’t know how they got my mobile number in the first place; perhaps they obtained and saved it from the redirection when I moved house. But there’s no apparent way to stop them texting, and because it doesn’t come from a normal number I can’t block it.

So in a "remote" location in some ways we get a far worse service and in some ways a much better one.

Worse because many companies treat us as if we lived at the North Pole. Delivery to the rest of the UK, that will be free, "oh no Sir, because of where you live that will be £875.93." "But you are sending it Royal Mail it doesn't cost any more" "Sorry that's our policy". Also most of the couriers don't have their own vans here so they subcontract it.

It's better because we know the local courier drivers, I am often flagged down by the drivers to pass over a parcel in the middle of nowhere. They also have my phone number to ring me to see if I am in. Sadly they often have to apologise over the state the parcels have arrived in from Hermes.

We’ve had a right carryon with Yodel recently. A neighbours order (house number 1) from Debenhams - left them a card saying the parcel was left at our house (number 32) - which isn’t on the same road and is quite a distance from #1

Neighbour calls to ours to collect but we haven’t received any parcel and no courier left anything with us from them - queue the neighbour then getting arsey with me suggestingnive nicked it and even contacted the newbuild sales office on site (new estate not finished yet) to “have a word with me”

This was 3wks a go at least and she’s still being funny with us about it even though it’s got frig all to do with us! fkwits!

DPD drivers are not on minimum wage or 50p a drop.

Tight schedules and timings to get everything out on the 1 run?

That photo a page back which I posted of a parcel the wrong way up, marked fragile and in a hedge was "delivered" by DPD.

confused Neither of those points are relevant to what they earn.

Your statement about that is wrong.

DPD will need to be competitive in a tightly run market, so they will be giving their guys a very busy run to do with lots of drop offs and collections.

So why don't Amazon et al start putting some fks into Herpes and Dropped Parcel Delivery about the sub standard service their customers receive?

Do they really not care?

How long till Amazon launch their OWN branded delivery service just to control it a bit better

never had a problem with Amazon. Ebay yes lately ordered a part for my boat had an email nobody in card left. No card was left and no parcel until a couple of hours later a guy delivered it from his home where it had been left for some reason it was a mile away.
Yodel will not answer my question as to where they think the parcel is

They already have one. I can't remember the last time anything I ordered from Amazon was delivered by someone other than Amazon's own drivers.

One of the geniuses left a parcel in our recycling wheelie bin a couple of weeks ago... not too bad, apart from the fact that it was out on the street waiting for the bin lorry...
They always do that, apart from the postman.

We sent a £25k NAS to site using a corporate "secure" courier. It arrived looking like they'd lobbed it into a layby at speed, box had holes, was full of grit and the disks were all knackered.

Another client loaned a top end wan accelerator worth about £60k and that arrived with the front smashed in. The outsourced test company had just installed it in the test lab without question. The vendor wasn't too impressed when it got shipped back knackered about 12 months later.

It's not just home deliveries that can suck!

Well, it seems that I may be one of the very few people that don't really have major issues with deliveries, or is it more a case of generally only those experiencing problems post about it?

I've had 91 deliveries from Amazon in the last year including several bottles of whiskey and a pretty delicate projector.

I've bought around 85 items from eBay this year which included 3 x large format camera lenses from Japan and a vintage plate from Australia.

Other stuff delivered included a display cabinet with glass door, a large projector screen and a 35mm film camera.

All of it arrived without damage, and got to me ok.

A couple of items were left with my immediate neighbours (who we fortunately do get on with).

A few, I got the card through the door and had to go pick up from a UPS pick up point, or the local post office delivery office as they needed a signature.

Several were actually delivered as someone was in the house.

The majority though go in our home made drop off box. For when we're not in, I've bought a spare wheelie bin from the local council, and secured it with a chain to the wall by the front door. It's not visible from the street as it's masked by a bush in front of it, although it's really obvious when you're stood at the front door as it right next to you and has "deliveries" in big letters on it. I've fitted a clasp on the lid which can be secured with a padlock which is left unlocked. There's a sign by the front door asking that if there's no answer to the doorbell for deliveries to be put in the wheelie bin and the padlock locked.

It obviously has the limitation of only being able to deal with one delivery a day until someone comes home and empties it, but for the vast majority of deliveries, its quick for the delivery driver, pretty secure, and keeps the parcel dry.

Obviously now I've said I don't get problems with deliveries, it's all going to go tits up! smile

Yep this. We all want cheap as chips then complain when things go wrong.
This.
The UK is obsessed with price above all else, makes me weep tbh....

Why did you accept it?

I have refused delivery from DPD when the box looked completely wrecked and insisted he photographed another damaged box which I signed for as unchecked, in case I found subsequently the item was damaged.
