Bit of a N/S split features today - low pressure in the north, plenty of rain. Not so much effect from the low in the south, but plenty of humid heat getting dragged up from the south. High pressure for the weekend, and then we reach a crossroads by midweek next week...

Still at a crossroads next week, although edging towards a less favourable solution for summer lovers. Well, it is the start of the school holidays, right?

Not in the bin yet - but keeping a close eye on which way things swing.

I work in an old building built in 1935 that has no windows or aircon. Any sort of weather that is cooler and less humid is most welcome.

That's a direct contrast to when I'm out on my bicycle. However, it doesn't really matter if I get wet or sweaty on the bike. In work it's a different matter.

Any forecasts for the last weekend in July? It's my old village show.

Crazy to think that we were in a heatwave this time last year.

Back in Budapest after a week back in the UK.

Much cooler here now, compared to the last few weeks, and similar to the UK.

Made for a very pleasant cycle into the office, a lovely 21 deg at 0830.

It's very muggy here and the sky is dark or foreboding. Wonder if we might actually get a thunderstorm.

Feels like we need one. I'm sweating just playing fortnite.

Muggy as a mugged mugger here as well, like living in a rain forest but with no trees and no rain and certainly no thunder.

If I lived up North where thunder was promised under the guise of a weather warning, I'd want a refund as it seems that nothing has happened or is happening.

The humidity here in the South surely must mean that we are some something, it is all pain with no gain.

It's been like this in the south for a while now. Really need a storm to get rid of this muggyness.

The ideal place (as is so often the case) is somewhere in the middle then.

Masses of lightning showing on Blitzorg just over the Channel in Europe, still not a dicky bird here.

Soon it is going to be like, "Grandad [*] what was it like when we used to get thunderstorms here in England?"

[*] I don't have Grandchildren yet.

So next weekend from 21st and into the end of July, where is looking the best place in Britain? I'm looking to get away somewhere, nothing booked so want to follow the sun or warmth if not both.

Gorgeous day 31c , this evening/tonight we have the mother and father of Prairie storms happening . Sheet and fork lightning building for a few hours , then it let rip , 3"rain drops with pea sized hail interspersed ,it'll no doubt be rattling away for a couple of hours to come . Myself and Mrs fttm with wine on the deck enjoying the show , good times .

I'm thinking England, middle to east would be the best bet.

The way things are shaping up, the south/SE may stay pleasantly in the low 20s.

Possible heat towards late July, normal high risk!

Here in guernsey we have had over 2 weeks of unbroken sunshine, probably even longer.
