I sold a pit bike that had been hanging around without use for a few years.

Said in the advert that it started ok but needed a bit of TLC as it had been stood for years.

3 lads came for it and set off home with it hanging out of the boot of a presumably borrowed 72 plate audi.

I then got a call of someone who said he was the buyers brother saying it was a piece of st and now it won't start so he was bringing it back and throwing it through my window!

I said it was nice of him to warn me, told him that the call was recorded and reminded him that he was on camera from the minute he turned into my drive.

Honestly. £200.
Your first mistake was selling a Pit bike on Facebook Marketplace hehe

Anything like that or mobiles phones, game consoles etc = headache

I'd consider not being burgled by them later that evening a win.

I've got a quad bike that I need to sell, an early 90s Honda big red 300.

Unfortunately it doesn't have a serial number, so has obviously been nicked at some point in its life. The obviously honest sellers description of "the serial number is down there but you have to take the front guard off" didn't come true unfortunately.

The police weren't interested as it is 30 years old and we have had it for 5 years and it's only worth £800 or so.

I'm really struggling to know what to do with it, I suspect if I put it on Facebook marketplace Ivwill get a load of scumbags and stupid offers.

I guess I could break it and sell it for parts, but I can't be bothered really.

Bit stuck to be honest.

Unusually simple and pleasant experience shifting some slabs on the marketplace last week, 14 3x2 concrete slabs that were pretty well past their best but free to a good home.

Listed 8am. 9am I get, "Mate, I only need 6 of them would that be alright?" followed by another chap asking if it was alright to take just 8 as he was laying a base for a new shed. Both arrived when they said they would, pleasant conversation as I helped them load up. Missus happy at the sudden departure of the concrete eyesore.

You had 14 slabs to sell, had two buyers, one wanted 8 the other 6; serendipity springs to mindthumbup

I’d avoid eBay, regardless of how you take money, you can still get trapped

Advertise on gumtree or similar, cash only, don’t meet at home, disable it somehow whilst inspection is going on

Personally I’d try and join a forum related to the quad and dm a helpful person on there offering it for less than it’s worth.

Quad bikes etc simply attract scumbags

I helped a friend wire some lights on a dual motorbike trailer and that of course attracted proper scum bags when he came to sell it

I'd like to get back into a Shed for the tinkering, liberating drive anywhere ownership, buying tyres at £32 fitted for a ditchfinder or £38 fitted for a Continental etc. I've got quite a specific range - Berlingo, Daihatsu Charade/Sirion, Hyundai Amica, Lancer Estate, Subaru Justy etc, some manual, some automatic, but whatever it is, it must have working a/c!

Saw an ad for an Amica, checked it on MOT History and contacted the seller to ask a few questions, sound out the condition of the car with a view to arranging a viewing. I went through the list confirming number of owners, mileage, MOT expiry, condition, tyres etc - the usual questions and trying to arrange a viewing for this weekend.

Then the guy dropped the bombshell. The car was in daily use. Fine. But I would need to hand over the money first, so he had the money to buy his next car, and I could collect the Amica when he had found something. No. No. No. I'm buying your car, not being your bank.

In an act of stupidity on Friday I listed a load of stuff up for FREE on FaceBook Marketplace for collection only.

First item was a rigid camera case. Collected by a very nice lady. She thought it was cheeky to ask if the fk bag was available as well, so asked for the camera case as her first choice. I said no she could have that too. Anything to get rid of things to a good home.

Then the others. One lady asked about 20 questions on 2 very nice TechAir laptop bags I had. I said everything was in the description:

said:
Qty 2x TechAir Laptop Bags for 13.3 inch laptops only. Will not fit 15 inch laptops
FREE to a good home.
Collection only 2 mins from M20 J7, near Tesco/TV Studios, Maidstone. No delivery, no courier, no posting.
among her 20 questions were:
Can I have both of them? Yes
Are they Free? Yes
Where abouts you? Erm biggrin
How long will it take me to get to you? Erm biggrin
Can you post them to me? No
Can I collect them tomorrow? Yes. I'm out all day but I'll put them in a plastic bag and I'll leave them under the car on the drive (silver Passat estate with roof bars). House number and postcode provided.

Got home yesterday evening and they weren't collected. I have the patience of a fking Saint.

I’ve learnt never to put anything on Facebook marketplace for free. Free stuff is basically direct ‘selling’ to Jeremy Kyle contestants.

I bought 3 different pocket watches from a woman on FB marketplace over the weekend.
All described as "1940s or 1950s, just need them gone etc".
All 3 for £15.

Done some research on them since and dropped them round to a "watch bloke" that I know, one is indeed from the 1940's, and worth ~£150.

Another looks to be circa 1880's, and worth substantially more.

The third one I can't find any information on at all, so who knows for now.

Not bad, this FB stuff biggrin

Yesterday, to remind myself how time consuming selling on FB is, I listed a OBD2 scan tool for JLR cars. Within moments of listing, I had a barrage of messages offering me 50% of what I was asking. Obviously this was to include next day postage at my expense.

Eventually, I was able to find that one message from someone local who was happy to pay what I was asking.

Thing is, this reminded me of an incident a couple of years ago. This time it was a Tech 2 clone I was selling on FB, once again very popular and a chap arranges to come around and buy it off me.
He turns up as arranged and asks if he can test it to make sure it works (not unreasonably) and then proceeds to turn off his airbag light and then tell me he doesn't want it any more.

I have a car tyre I want rid of, it's never been fitted and I want it out of my way. I'm gong to advertise it for £5 on FB Marketplace and whoever I agree to sell it to (I'm selective) I'll give it to them free when they collect.

Having moved house 5 months ago into that might be described as an "oak themed" house, I've probably spent £3k over that period on various Oak Furniture Land stuff from FB Marketplace in a 60 mile radius of home.

Have to say, there's been no bad experiences with everything perfectly as described and lots of friendly, helpful people. I've found it quite refreshing actually.

My inflatable hot tub burst, I saw a fibreglass one missing its pump and filter free to uplift. I asked the dimensions and it was too big for my van, so I said i'm sorry I would have to leave it. He offered to deliver it for 20 quid so I left the money safe for himas I was away with work.
Made a few plumbing adaptions to fit the internals of my lay z spa egg inside the body, and the thing worked an absolute treat. The thing is brilliant, kids love it, much better than the inflatable crap.
Tried to message the guy to say thanks and to paypal him a 20 quid tip and he had blocked me. fk knows why.
