I'd like to get back into a Shed for the tinkering, liberating drive anywhere ownership, buying tyres at £32 fitted for a ditchfinder or £38 fitted for a Continental etc. I've got quite a specific range - Berlingo, Daihatsu Charade/Sirion, Hyundai Amica, Lancer Estate, Subaru Justy etc, some manual, some automatic, but whatever it is, it must have working a/c!
Saw an ad for an Amica, checked it on MOT History and contacted the seller to ask a few questions, sound out the condition of the car with a view to arranging a viewing. I went through the list confirming number of owners, mileage, MOT expiry, condition, tyres etc - the usual questions and trying to arrange a viewing for this weekend.
Then the guy dropped the bombshell. The car was in daily use. Fine. But I would need to hand over the money first, so he had the money to buy his next car, and I could collect the Amica when he had found something. No. No. No. I'm buying your car, not being your bank.
I had something similar when selling a saxo vts, it was probably 6 years old at the timeSaw an ad for an Amica, checked it on MOT History and contacted the seller to ask a few questions, sound out the condition of the car with a view to arranging a viewing. Let’s say it was up for 5k
Some scumbag turns up, wanted to drive it without insurance etc etc
Offered me say 2.5k CASH
I politely declined saying I’d only just put it up for sale
3k, no
3.5, no Thankyou
Got upto 4750 or so, but had decided this clown was not going to buy it, because you knew full well he’d been yelling at you when it needed something doing
When I said 4750 was still not enough, he said something along the lines of “well my moped (or whatever it was) was worth 2k.”
I asked what’s that got to do with it, he wanted me to take something two wheeled as a part ex, plus a games console, and then he could pay me the rest in instalments
Naturally he could get a better 106gti round the corner for 3k, usual retard reasoning/bartering attempts
A day later a nice young fella took it for 4.5k, gone in 30 mins
The numpty kept hounding me for a few days, truly detached from reality
He may have even tried to have thrown a teeth on a lead dog into the mix, I forget
This was a private sale

Interesting, what would it be used for testing?Reading the Coventry Victor Wikipedia entry, it mentions that this AC4 engine pictured in the Facebook ad was used on Aircraft Hydraulic Test sets made by Sir George Godfrey & Partners and on hydraulic ramps, presumaby for loading luggage, made by Aviaton Traders (Engineering). One of these engines was also fitted to a Piper Cub by the Coventry Victor managing director.
Update: I had a visit today from a 90 year old friend, who, rather fortuitously, did his National Service in the RAF at Duxford, maintaining ground equipment. I asked him about these test sets and he did remember the one with the two cylinder engine unit, but not the one with four cylinders. As Duxford was operating Meteors, that would explain the smaller units, whereas a transport or V-bomber station probably had the larger ones.
He also mentioned a unit with power take off, via a sort of propshaft, so the aircraft's own pump could be driven by the engine on the ground equipment.

Just had a great one.
I've got a Google Pixel 3 phone up for sale. Been on a while, not a lot of interest, so bit of a surprise to get a message asking if it was still available.
"Yes, still available"
"£75?"
"Yes, that would be fine."
"Layby opposite Fever by the bus station"
"What?"
"Layby by the bus station. I'll wait."
"I'm at work. I'm not driving across town now to drop off a phone to a stranger in a layby"
"Alright. Leave it then..."
Is this really how people do stuff? I've sold a fair few items and generally it works well, so this was an eye-opener

My clearing out of stuff on FaceBook is still giving. I advertised a job lot of 6 camera cases for free. A nice mixture of Berghaus, Lifeventure and some other ones. Got a young lad wanting to come today and collect them, and asking how far I was away from the local station - 20-30 mins walk. I ask him where he is coming from (East London) and why he want's to travel so far for some camera cases. He replies that as he is autistic he gets free train travel.
I'm at work today, so I've messaged him that they are in a bag under the family Bussat on the drive. Will they be there or not?

That’s for sale in Southampton as well, curiousHow can I scam a scammer?
I'm flogging a few more bits on FB, and surprisingly the first object of the day, an iPad Pro, went with zero hassle! Advertised it this morning, and by lunchtime a very pleasant chap had come round to my house and bought it in cash. It was very odd
But, I'm now advertising a couple of watches for sale. Nothing too crazy but a Breitling for £2k and a couple of £500 Seiko's. I have immediately started getting plausible sounding, but clearly scammy messages off profiles which look legit.
"I would like to buy this for my son for his birthday. I would like to pay you by bank transfer and you can post it straight to my son" etc
How can I scam these people back? Clearly I won't be sending anything anywhere until £2k appears in my bank, but I suspect the £2k will then somehow be recalled?
Is there anything I can do to force them to not scam me? Ask them to pay £2k into an empty account (which has zero overdraft facility) then withdraw it in full. I presume they can't of anything about it then? Then just ask them where to send the watch, and if an address appears, send it.

Send them one of these instead of the watch. It's a win win if the money stays in your account!!I'm flogging a few more bits on FB, and surprisingly the first object of the day, an iPad Pro, went with zero hassle!
