How I would do has nothing to do with the subject - which is that some celebrities are appallingly ignorant of everyday things, never mind anything complex, yet some people regard them as role models
Lots of people are below average intelligence. They look at a celebrity and think if they can make it then so can I, so they are inspirational to some people. V8mate said:
Not sure how true it is, but I heard that almost 50% of people are!
Not necessarily. In a sequence of "1, 2, 3, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4, 5, 6" only 3 of those numbers are below average. So although I acknowledge the humour of your reply, I think Cotty was correct in merely saying "lots" rather than "50%".

My annoyance for today are perpetually offended people who see thread titles and know that the content within is likely to offend them, but rather than doing the sensible thing and moving on to the next thread, instead they decide to come in and then post a lot of outrage about how offended they are by it all and bh about the mods "not doing their job" in a thread that has existed for 276 pages without any issue.
Don't be so juvenile...I know litterers (is that a word ?) have been covered before, but the ones that particularly annoy me lately are the ones who drop tissues. While I am out walking the slowest dog in the world I, often pick up litter as we go and drop it in the next bin I pass, but I find tissues disgusting. You have no idea if they have been used or not, so I end up using a dog poo bag to pick them up, which is probably a bit ott, but I'd rather not have someones snot all over my hand.

Eta: 45 mins for bag drop and over 20 for security, which was old style one where you have to take laptops and liquids out. Why does it all take so long? I must have been at the bag drop desk fit less than a minute, what on earth were all the slow people doing?

But basically, you've been stuck behind someone who probably had too much baggage for their allowance and was arguing the toss with one (or one of the two) people designated for bag drop. Also a chance that there have been someone who has a visa/passport check to be done which will have taken extra time.
And then you've been in a queue behind a load of people who don't pre-prepare themselves to go through security until they get to the front of the conveyor. Some airports try to encourage you to go and prepare yourself away from the main queue. but people don't always, and then they need to be searched which limits throughput on that lane
On the “airport theme”, PHers who use the three letter codes for airports. We get it, you’re an international jet setting powerfully built director type, but guess what, not all of us know every single airport code. In fact, there’s probably some cross pollination with the “Walt”thread as well.

Put your BRP or other visa document into your passport at the photo page, hand it over and let the nice person do their job.

I largely agree with that post but I have to point out as someone who has to go through visa checks entering the UK... It's remarkably fking fast if you've got your st ready.

But that's entering the UK, not exiting the UK. And as I said, that's for people who know what they are doing, rather than people who don't. Around 60% of people who go through the airport each day will be doing so for the only time that year, they aren't doing it every couple of weeks for business. The fine for an airline sending someone on who isn't allowed into the country they are flying to is c. £10,000 as well as the cost of repatriating them back to the UK, (and it will pretty much immediately end the career of whichever person checked them in). So those who are not au fait with the process will wisely go and check with a supervisor if they are uncertain. So you can either do that at the gate or at check in, depending on whether or not you have to go and drop bags off etc. And doing so will then slow the process down for everyone behind them.

I think we're both agreeing that the main problem are people who don't know what they're doing... I'd like to add that these people have no interest in learning and we can blame them for that. The fine for an airline sending someone on who isn't allowed into the country they are flying to is c. £10,000 as well as the cost of repatriating them back to the UK, (and it will pretty much immediately end the career of whichever person checked them in). Also, you don't need to do passport checks exiting the UK. Security checks yes... And there are signs all over Heathrow telling you exactly what you need to do, even a guy shouting "laptops out, liquids out of your bags please" so there is no excuse for not knowing.
I want a card that says "this person knows how to queue and follow basic instructions" that gets me into the express queue with the others who can follow basic instructions.

That's a chargeable extra, £5-15 for premium security I think. We all know how successful airports are at making money

Amsterdam heading to Portugal on Air Portugal. There were a big group of Portuguese in front of me who went through pretty quick so you may be on to something with the Visa checks.
