The view they will probably take is if you cant be arsed to make a good effort at an interview how much effort will you put in if they give you the job.
Guess who will get the job if 2 of you are going for a job and both interview the same, but 1 looks a lot smarter than the other.
Laughable, utter tosh.Guess who will get the job if 2 of you are going for a job and both interview the same, but 1 looks a lot smarter than the other.
Would you turn up to an interview for a barman's job dressed in a 3 piece suit or smart casual? If I was unemployed and wanting a job as a bus driver, if they had seen my work experience and then me dressed like someone from the city, they would probably think this chap will foxtrot oscar as soon as something better comes along.
It is absolutely about cultural fit, will this person fit within our culture. I recently interviewed at one of the big 4 (nailed it, btw thanks for asking) and I was fully suited and booted, not shaved but neatly trimmed. The facial hair didnt matter, the jacket got removed and I removed the tie. Absolutely in that environment I would expect to dress as such, when I actually work I'll be in smart jeans and a shirt, Jezza style.
Previously I worked for a start up, a very successful one, but had I turned up suited and booted I would have been pegged as not a cultural fit - it is always a case of dress to your audience. The fact you call ahead and check, that typically works - I say typically, because it depends on the companies maturity and approach but it is all part of the learning process.
Always dress to the audience. It works in meetings too, you can power dress if you wish to put people on the back foot or under dress if you want to either appear subdued or want to let them build up false confidence but you never have to change who you are for the interview.

There's plenty of bars around here where the candidate most likely to get the job will be the one in a 3 piece tweed suit with a beard who turns up on a pennyfarthingWould you turn up to an interview for a barman's job dressed in a 3 piece suit or smart casual?

I said that you should make the effort and look smart for an interview.

People who tailgate when you're doing 30mph in a 30mph zone.
And more to the point - in this latest incident there were cars ahead of me but it didn't stop the car behind overtaking me and cutting in close to the front of my car. We got up to the roundabout and we were then side by side. Doing all that to get absolutely nowhere any quicker.
The very epitome of a poor driver. Overtaking, changing lanes, pushing in, roaring away at the lights, presumably to gain ground, but to no useful effect. They almost always have to stop, slow down or even fall behind as a result. And more to the point - in this latest incident there were cars ahead of me but it didn't stop the car behind overtaking me and cutting in close to the front of my car. Are you sure PistonHeads is the right website for you?Are you one of those drivers who flashes their lights furiously after someone overtakes you perfectly safely?
