I don't like government intervention. Would be better if clothes retailers decided it was all to much hassle and went back to the High St, wouldn't it?
With stupid business rates and american companies running .co.uk's but invoicing from lux? High street stores are dead, was amazed to see Peacocks bailing out BonMarche this morning, how long before H&M goes bust?

Perhaps if retailers clubbed together to offer 1st return free, take the piss and we will charge you returns - might work.

People in the UK hosting a thanksgiving dinner, yet more Americanism creeping into our culture. If they or a family member are from North America, I can forgive them.

I've realised a lot of things annoy me beyond reason, maybe I need a vacation.

If some things annoy you beyond reason, perhaps you need a dedicated thread on a forum.

Thanksgiving is only a different name for the Harvest Festival. I think it's rather sweet of the crazily christian Americans to celebrate a pagan festival.

Indeed, Oregon and Washington in particular look great in fall.

I guess it's when they eat the turkeys which didn't vote for Christmas?

With a name like Big easy you should like all things American, no?

Besides which, Thanksgiving is a far nicer American import than Halloween or 4th July. It's just an excuse for a second bite at Christmas Dinner if you eliminate the 'giving thanks' element. And who doesn't like a big Christmas Turkey Dinner sat down with extended family? Embrace this most foreign of traditions... wink

The fact that this year, my neighbourhood's Winter Fair has given over one of the small car parks to Extinction Rebellion.

A fair assumption to make, though my name is a nickname from a previous job when I was easy going and didn't get annoyed beyond reason by everything.

You've done a good job of selling the idea of a thanks giving dinner, though I'd prefer to leave the big turkey dinner for Christmas day. I'd be happy for the Americans to keep most of their traditions and culture to themselves to be honest, particularly their sports.

Fall = Autumn.

I don't understand why they don't just say autumn, their constant butchering of the English language is utter trash.

Fall used to be used here, and they carried on. Autumn is from a French word

Indeed. A lot of American English is derived from English as it was spoken at the time of The Mayflower, and then the languages diverged and a lot of (our) English was corrupted by French.

In many ways, American English is arguably purer (or, at least, less changed) than English is. Even though it pains me to say it, as I'm annoyed by Americanisms as much as the next person (unless the next person is Frank, of course).

I think you'll find that the French influence began the best part of 600 years earlier.

This is the fundamental problem with buying clothes online. They need to be touched, looked at, tried on. You can't do that online (photos are rarely a good substitute for actually seeing the garment).

Retailers have tried to get around this limitation with free returns, and then complain that people make use of the free returns.

Yes, some buyers totally take the piss and wear the item once to an event and then expect a full return & refund.

To your second quote, I’m unsure what a track day is, I’d guess maybe a race meeting, like Brands Hatch, Silverstone?, or is it more of a get together of like minded car enthusiasts?
Neither being my style.
Well you're certainly no car enthusiast, that's for sure.
