Fall used to be used here, and they carried on. Autumn is from a French word
Indeed. A lot of American English is derived from English as it was spoken at the time of The Mayflower, and then the languages diverged and a lot of (our) English was corrupted by French. Clockwork Cupcake said:

To your second quote, I’m unsure what a track day is, I’d guess maybe a race meeting, like Brands Hatch, Silverstone?, or is it more of a get together of like minded car enthusiasts?
Neither being my style.
Well you're certainly no car enthusiast, that's for sure. Neither being my style.
"Track day" has a Wikipedia page.

He just wants to talk about taxis, America and Red. Anything else, no interest, unless there's a way for him to slip in some irrelevant 40 year old anecdote about one of the three.
You'l be old one day. The distraction of work and work mates will be long forgotten. You'll have said everything there is to say to your missus. You too will leap at the chance to tell anyone absolutely anything.

Not for nothing L.T., but here’s a suggestion, if you see a post authored by Frank7, just keep on scrolling down, the next ones may possibly be of the type that meet with your approval.

With respect, PistonHeads is (or certainly was) a car enthusiast website. Look along the header row and the menu items are Buy (buying cars), Sell (selling cars), News (news about cars), Forums (forums about cars, bikes, motorsport, and many others admittedly not about cars), Events (events about cars), Services (car-related services). I just find it odd that someone who has so little interest in cars and driving that they haven't even heard of a track day should find themselves drawn to such a website as PistonHeads.
Of course, it's just as likely that "Frank7" is a puppet account run by a regular PHer for jolly japes and trolling, in which case as you were.
You don't have a TVR Tuscan in a field somewhere do you?

No I don’t CC, shame on me I know, but I had to Google TVR Tuscan, I knew that it had to be a car of some description, probably a sports model, but I genuinely had no idea of exactly what one looked like.I just find it odd that someone who has so little interest in cars and driving that they haven't even heard of a track day should find themselves drawn to such a website as PistonHeads.

I wasn’t “drawn” to PH, I accidentally stumbled upon it and the various threads on the forum piqued my interest, so although I had zero interest in cars, I registered with the forum.
I don’t know how to prove that I’m not a puppet account holder, ask the mods if I am, wouldn’t they know one way or the other?
My hand to God, I have one account only on PH, if you can suggest a way that I can prove that, I’ll willingly try to do so.

Retailers have tried to get around this limitation with free returns, and then complain that people make use of the free returns.
Yes, some buyers totally take the piss and wear the item once to an event and then expect a full return & refund.
In Womens wear it's not just "some buyers" its' a significant chunk. Ordering 4 different colours in 3 different sizes is common place and then returning the lot after a night out or because they don't like it. All unpackaged. The scale of the problem is enormous . A lot of these massively growing on line retailers are hiding huge warehouses of returned stock that should but can't be written down because of the effect on their over inflated share price.
They're getting away with it in the short term because they pay little taxes compared to the traditional high street players but if the Gov ever level out the playing field it could get very messy.

It's a problem of their own making, though. The scale of the problem is enormous . A lot of these massively growing on line retailers are hiding huge warehouses of returned stock that should but can't be written down because of the effect on their over inflated share price.

But, yes, I can totally get the fact that some women will order several colours in several sizes and then send back the ones that aren't suitable because
a) the retailer allows it
b) sizing varies enormously between brands (see Vanity Sizing) and you don't know what is going to fit until you try it on
c) that's the online equivalent of what you do in-store.
I agree that from the seller's viewpoint it is disastrous and seriously damages their bottom line, especially when buyers return stuff with damaged / missing packaging. That's why if I do buy online and have to return, I'm fastidious about packaging stuff back up in a re-sellable condition, although I know I'm in the minority.
Personally I enjoy "going shopping" and actually seeing the clothes, seeing the colours, picking out ones that look like they might suit me and fit me, and trying them on.

There is a lot of science to a shop layout, they plan very carefully where items are placed, they know that putting an item in a certain place is more likely to make you buy it, even if you didnt think you wanted it. Gassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
